Tip: *Always tune UP, to a note, not down* If you must tune down, go past the desired note, then tune it back up to pitch...
@axelmerighi
@axelmerighi 3 жыл бұрын
Why is that? Just curious
@Jobvdschouw
@Jobvdschouw 3 жыл бұрын
@@axelmerighi I want to start with saying that goes for any guitar. When you tune down the tuner loses a bit of tension, -regardless if equipped with a floyd or maybe a hardtail- and it can get flat really quickly. When you tune it back down and then up again the tuner gets a tighter grip on the string and it will probably stay in tune for longer ;)

@@axelmerighi Think of it as cinching up a rope... it's better to have tension on the string rather than them slipping.

I just pulled out my old Kramer with a FL. I used to use 8s when I first got it but have been using hybrid slinkys on my strat for decades. I put some of those on there and the bridge was raised like crazy. I did as shown, lowered the bridge and is now proper. No more high action lol. Thx so much for this video!!!

I always use a wooden block that fits between the Floyd in the back and the inside of the guitar body, tune your guitar and then adjust the trem claw until the wooden block just becomes free.. remove it and your trem is set up! One slight caveat is that to get the trem perfectly level will require a certain size bit of wood, different guitars might need different size bits of wood
@159Fender159
@159Fender159 5 жыл бұрын
I tried this today while setting the whole thing up. You can improvise: use coins, business cards, anything you can add/remove height to easily. Unfortunately I don’t know what I did wrong, I kept tightening the claw screws to get the block to fall off, but the screws wouldn’t tighten anymore... sure enough, I removed the block and it went out of tune again.
@ARTSPRAYUK
@ARTSPRAYUK 5 жыл бұрын
100 the better way and saves keep adjusting the strings as they pull each other out of tune ,the problems on the video had nothing to do with new strings it is just how a floating bridge works as you tune each string to pitch it lowers the pitch on the others ,blocking the trem stops that and also gets you where you want to be a lot faster
@ARTSPRAYUK
@ARTSPRAYUK 5 жыл бұрын
@@159Fender159 You loosen the spring claw to allow the block to fall away not tighten it unless of course you blocked it incorrectly at the wrong side of the sustain block

5:49 On my guitars,at that point, I’ll start stretching the strings, divebombing & working the crap out of the tremolo. Then retuning the guitar and repeating the process until the tuning is stable and I can whammy in tune without the nut being locked. Then I’ll lock the nut and do final tune with the fine tuners.
@irvan36mm
@irvan36mm 3 жыл бұрын
The best Floyd setup I’ve ever came across is one without a locking nut. I used to have a cheap Kramer Pacer (back in the day ;) ). It had an original Floyd bridge without the fine tuners and no locking nut. It was so smooth and you could not pull that thing out of tune...., until you broke a string. Guthrie Govan has a similar setup on his signature Charvels.

What did i messed up ( 3:55 ) , because everytime i tune the guitar from 6 to 1, i have to start all over from 6 to 1 because when i have 1st string in tune, 6th is dropped again and eventually bridge is facing sky high before locking strings ? I did lower the bridge a little. I cannot see it in eye, but it might not be perfectly straight because i like to keep 6th string a bit higher than 1st and 2nd string. I might need to adjust tension springs but i have no idea what to do. Basic newbie errors and just lack of knowledge. Tips are appreciated so my ESP could be in shape again, thanks :)

@Beardwhip

Same. They didn't address it in this video but it's still an issue with the balancing. When the spring tension is too high on one side, it will pull unevenly on the 3 strings corresponding to which side its on (left/treble screw effects g/b/E, right/bass screw effects e/a/d). Mine were so unbalanced I couldn't get the guitar in tune whatsoever. Figuring out which side is pulling up more by looking at the angle of the floating bridge is key. I recommend loosening the strings & backing both the screws off so you have room to work with. Then slowly bring it up to pitch. If it's still not letting you, observe the angle of the float (when string tension is applied) & adjust spring claw screws accordingly. Repeat until its balanced

I need some help. My floyd rose is setup with 9-42 gauge strings in e standard tuning like the guitar in this video, except I have a 4 spring setup currently. I want to go down to a 3 spring set up like the one in the video. I removed the 4th spring and set up the remaining 3 springs in the /I\ arrangement. However, when I tightened the claw screws down to get the bridge level and tuned up, my Floyd was still leaning heavily forward toward the pickups. I have tried tightening the claw screws as far as they can go and the bridge still leans forward well above the normal floating position. I also tried the 3 springs arranged evenly like this | | |, but it didn’t work. Any ideas on how I can get a 3 spring setup working with my current string gauge and tuning? Thank you!

If It doesn't return to the same spot, you better inspect the knife edges or posts, If they have some wear probably you'll have to buy a new baseplate or post. Also the Wood around the posts sometimes crack (happens a lot on cheap guitars), If the Wood is cracked a Luthier may be able to fix It.

Yes, you are basically "lengthening" the springs by pulling the claw further from the bridge, but because tension is the same for a given set of strings in a given tuning, the overall length of the springs will resist lengthening, therefore the bridge will be pulled level to the body. You could also try adding a 3rd or 4th spring if you have room in your cavity and can't adjust the claw any more.

Adjust the string action to fnd the point where you get good tone and no buzz
@TheUniversalEyes
@TheUniversalEyes 5 жыл бұрын
You probably have some uneven frets, which means you need to have your frets leveled or you need to use high gauge strings and see if that helps. Typically though, if you have certain frets that are buzzing or making different notes (dead frets) you have to file those frets down. That's something that most people don't know how to do and should not do if they have never done before. Guitars suck, they are always in need of repair, especially wood guitars. If I were rich I would buy a carbon fiber guitar, they don't have the problems wooden guitars have.

spring tension is the trick. Floyd Rose tuning depends for the 80% of how you set the spring tension.

I can watch all the vids and still never understand this. What's always ending up happening to me was the bridge would go up all the way and then when I'd try to release tension my strings would pop out or break on me. Or while I was tubing they'd pull out the bridge pins and I could just never win. Such a pain in the ass. Someone's gotta show me in person one day cause I miss playing my jackson. Fuck
