8.5 to 40 gauge from Ernie Ball is my new favorite string set for a Gibson Scale length. I find there is enough punch for downpicking but the liveliness of the strings and how they interact with the pickups is amazing.

FAQ: How did you learn (basic-) music theory? I play bass and guitar (mainly bass) and want to be better in quickly jamming with others or when someone sends me something he recorded, that i can quicker know what to play? Yesyes, the most important is intuition, feel and all this stuff, but theory may help a lot to get started way quicker. Thank you for making FAQs again. Watching since the beginning :)

Hey Ola cheers from Florida! just wanted to say as a drummer I really dig your channel. I'm also a self-taught guitar player and have been since my early teenage years but never really took it as seriously as drums and kind of plateaued out a long time ago. with that being said it would be cool to see a video explaining in depth different tunings and how to achieve them as well as different string gauges and what works best in different situations.🤘

The EQ in the loop is post preamp distortion, where the EQ in the amp tone knobs contributes to overdrive distortion. You can make almost any high gain amp sound almost like any other high gain amp with eq pedals in front and in the FX loop.

Most traditional amp EQ’s are subtractive and filter out frequencies across a broad range and overlapping manner across the bass, treble and middle controls. An active EQ can boost or cut particular frequencies.

Thanks for replying to my question Ola, I think you really answered it properly... Even though Metallica is a bigger deal for me than it is to you, I think somehow we discovered it pretty much the same way, I had also heard about them through MTV and decided to delve into their discography and... they've been my favourite band ever since. They helped me a lot into liking - little by little - more and more extreme bands as time went by. I did a bit of the opposite route as well, I became more and more interested into hard rock stuff and also the classic metal songs that were successful before Metallica. They have definitely been a pivotal point in building my rock and metal knowledge fs.

The neck shape and fretboard radius plays a huge part into the feel and playability selection of a guitar. I don't have freakishly long fingers so I tend to prefer the thin neck profiles with a flatter fretboard (16-20" radius). Tough part is getting your hands on some of these guitars to see what you prefer. I've had to buy to try on a few of guitars.

I like all guitars that don't suck overall. I just ordered the last Epiphone Les Paul Prophecy in Olive Tiger on a german online music shop. So happy with it. I would consider a ESP or LTD 1000 Deluxe series or Solar without Floyd. I love the tunomatic style guitars or the Quick change system of Ibanez models. Got this Iceman 420 model and changing strings never have been better. Changed the tuners with locking Sperzel tuners and the nut with a Graphtech NuBone. Oiled the fretboard. Plays like a wet dream. Pickups are not waaaw but can't complain. Thinking of switching them with the Vai DiMarzio PIA set since they kinda look like the super 80's but flashier.

One difference between Solar and ESP is the difference between producing an affordable eight-string Flying V (bought mine used in the states), and not so much, i.e. an ESP multi-thousand custom shop model.

A new Idea came to mind in me, if you still have it then try to use the MXR Dime Distortion with max settings and boost turned on as a pre-CHUG pedal with the Chug pedal try to look for the best sound with it's built in noise gate keeping it smooth, thank me later.

Yes, putting an EQ in front of the amplifier to boost mids, while cutting mids on the amp, results in getting a tone characteristic of Dime's sound, as well as Exhorder for example.

The 2 biggest guitar companies on the planet are Gibson & Fender but when I want a guitar 99% of all brands only sell guitars with Fenders scale length 25 1/2 but not Gibson's 24 3/4. It escapes common sense for these companies to ignore players that want 24 3/4 even if it is just one model of guitar they offer with the shorter scale. Please do not tell me exceptions, I own them all, lol. The most difficult is finding a 24 3/4 with a Floyd. If one company offered it at a reasonable price they would have a virtually monopoly of thousands of players.

I would like that any guitar, amp, pedal etc. wouldn't have any EQ at all! Guitar shouldn't have tone knob and I've actually removed it from one of my guitars. I've always put all the tones right in the middle and bought separate 7-channel EQ pedal and put it in serial loop between pre and power amp. I can control tone just as I like, not like the lousy tone pots do in amp or guitar. Tone pots are shit and ass.
