you can also just 3d print a rounded frame for a normal 4:3 display works just as well if you dont have a 3d printer you can use vinyl cut into the right shape and just tape it to the screen . for a real jank setup black electrician tape and a something to cut it with or a black sharpie

Good job. This project has been fighting me all the way. I can't get the my SPI speed to the full 80MHZ for some reason meaning that I get glitches on the video. It's been a total pain. I was hoping to upload a video on it myself 😆 Edit : All working now. Note to self : Don't use 30AWG or poor quality wire if you want the full 80MHZ SPI speed.

The partition tool I use is AOMEI Partition Assistant. I used it to convert a 1TB SSD to Fat32 so I could use it in my PS3. It is less "jank" and works as well, so long as you connect to the drive you want to format to a Windows computer. Just an alternative program that might work if you have issues with yours. A rather cool project, and was unsure if the screens Aliexpress had were actually legit or complete bs... so I am confident enough to buy them now, as I know they work.

In your schematic, you have the GND from both sides of the ESP32 connecting to ground. I don't see it connected to anything on your actual project. Am I misunderstanding something?

It's silly to design it to be portable. Any cellphone is going to make it look underpowered. You need to focus on a standing unit that's USB powered. That's something people don't usually have already. Gooseneck microphone stands make great bases for small electronics.

Great job. FYI, "Shorted Out" would mean it is good (after all, it is a piece of wire). I think you meant "open", the opposite of short meaning it no workey.

Windows has a built in tool called Diskpart that can format things to FAT32, just be careful not to format your hard drive

Are the audio and video files compiled into the sketch, or can the sketch address any file after the sketch is compiled? If it is the second option, then you could put the file name in a json index, and have the esp32 read the file name from a play list dropdown menu... on the WS, you can click play nacho

So the files are compiled into the sketch. In this repo, you can see how there are multiple videos that are in an array from line 8-15. The sketch allows you to switch between videos. I'll look into what it would take to simply upload a video to an SD card and have it play without any hardcoding. bit.ly/3COz6Uz
