Learn How to Change a Washer Gasket Yourself! (Zanussi Washing Machine Door Seal)

Couple of tips I learned in the struggle to fit my new seal to the same machine in the video. Start the seal at the bottom.not the top as shown, then you can just about see when the lip of the seal is on the rim. Start at the top and you won't be able to see. Slide your fingers around the seal, pressing in very hard, either side once the first part is on and gradually work your way up and around. My seal made a crunching feeling as it went on. The spring hoop that secures it is almost impossible to fit as others have said. I stretched the spring a but to take a bit of the tension out of it, and that helped a lot, enabling me to get it on with a helper. Another thing that helped putting on the spring was to fold the loose rubber seal (the part you will attach later to the outside of the machine) inwards into the drum to give room to fit the spring.

agreed with all the comments below, he didn't do that in 15minutes !! took me 3 1/2 hours of grunting and trying to manage a slippery piece of rubber in a small gap !! oh and did it on the floor in my utility room not at shoulder level

Similar to a lot of the comments here I found this job extremely hard and not at all as easy as the guy makes it seem in the video. Consider how much you are willing to take on before this job as it is not for the faint hearted

Not sure about the comments. As a mum of 4 I was determined not to buy a new washing machine. Yes it was hard and yes it took about an hour but the video was very helpful. My washer has the water intake at the top of the seal to contend with as well. Thank you for your help and advice ❤

I managed to get most of this done relatively quickly (about 45 mins with a few attempts!) to get the seal attached. However I cannot for the life of me get the spring gripper back on, even with an extra pair of hands! Also have the dispenser part to reattach which makes it a bit more fiddly. We need a 3rd pair of hands I think so hopefully I will get it sorted soon!

@@Jennyhemming-l3fYES! What we ended up doing was putting the machine on its back. The weight of the drum pushed it down towards the back of the machine, which created more room to get 2 pairs of hands in between the drum and the outer of the machine to stretch it round, if that makes sense! Still very fiddly but considerably easier than having the machine upright! I hope you get it sorted! 🤞🏼

⁠@@billjudd92the wire around the dispenser part on ours was a small wire clip that just had to be pinched inwards to unhook/rehook it. I hope that makes sense. I hope you get it sorted!

To change the seal as per the e spares video is far too difficult for the average DIYer and if the drum has a close fitting counter weight, forget it, take the front panel off, it makes life so much easier. It takes less than 15 mins to remove the front panel and another 20 mins to replace the seal. Even with the front panel and counter weight removed it is still a very fiddly job. Hi Mari, it was difficult to show when filming as the camera can't get in while Mat has his hands inside, Mat did explain exactly what he was going to do in detail before fitting it but we will do better in the future, thank you for bringing it to our attention.

Take the whole front cover off. It’s a thousand times quicker and easier

Save yourself all the bother of trying to fit the spring hoop this guy blatantly skips out of the video by removing the front cover of the machine. After spending hours trying to fit the hoop then giving up, I got up the next day and managed to work out how to take the face off the machine, fit the hoop, reassembled the machine, fit the rubber seal to the face and then fit the second hoop to complete the whole job in well under an hour. It was pretty straight forward. Just be careful with the wires to the pcb, which you can disconnect and also the wire to the door locking mechanism which I didn’t bother disconnecting as it looked a little awkward.
