There's one thing that I think can fast and drastically get better at wildlife photography, and that is to photograph the same species and the same location again and again. I'll share 7 reasons and tips for why you should do this.

You absolutely nailed it with this video! I think the problem for myself at least is I also like to explore and be inspired by new locations which goes against this and also doesn't yield the same results.

I would say going back to the same location over and over again does have a positive impact on yourself as photographer. When you are in a new situation you have a lot of impressions to process. When you visit the same location often you can filter out a lot of those impressions and be more focused on the photography. Great tips and great photos of all the persons that contributed to this video!

Great video Espen! I'd love to photograph at your black grouse workshop some year (once I develop my skills a bit more). Kind of coming off from your tip of photographing a species in different conditions/angles, visiting a species again and again means your portfolio increases, so you can make calendars and photobooks of that one species to showcase your hard work. You've definitely got enough variety to do that Espen!

You are so right, going back to photograph same species and same locations is probably the thing a person could do to improve their wildlife photography, way more so than the latest greatest gear. Great advice in this video! Watching an animal is way more valuable than reading about them.

this one of the reasons I moved to Scotland closer to wildlife and was lucky enough to find a red kite feeding station near me. So once a week I photograph red kites still waiting to get that perfect picture, but so much fun trying.

Wonderful video and great suggestions for improving one's photography. This is not something I've committed myself to, until this year when I decided that I was going to concentrate on one location, and also choosing one or two of the more common birds in my area. Your video was a great inspiration for me. Thanks! Also, I recently picked up the OM-1 mkii - any chance you'll be doing an update for your OM System course?

Awesome video and thanks for sharing the image! Defintely a huge variety of different conditions you've been able to photograph them in. I bet it's great seeing the differences in behaviour as the lek season progesses! I managed to find a lek earlier this year after hearing their unmistakable sound while camping nearby. I had a fantastic morning watching them a few weeks ago - eight males came out to play - and I'm hoping to get another session with them in around a month...

Fabulous video and advice. I would love to photograph black grouse. We don’t have them around where I live, but do have other grouse. I just got done photographing some Greater Sage Grouse for the 2nd year and understand what you are saying. I already know what I want to do next year. I tell you what, you come to Idaho and I will treat you to some sage grouse to photograph, and I will go to Scotland and you can treat me to Black Grouse. Deal😊

I still have that birder mindset in me where once I get a somewhat decent shot of 1 species, i'm onto the next... I understand you points though, when I first started photography I spent lots of time on 1 parrot species and got a range of shots, now 4 years into photography and I couldn't replicate those shots unless I dedicated every weekend to that 1 species again.
