It's even possible to create PWM by syncing 2 squares having the same octave with the slave OSC modulated by the LFO with a slight mod depth to the OSC. I loved the 3P, eventhough it's fixed on MIDI channel 1 and (if I remember correctly) can't receive tweaking from the PG when MIDI is used.

I've never heard such a bad rap of 'thin and metallic'. Perhaps beacause people misconstrue the x-mod 'metal' setting as a constituent part of it's overall 'sound'. Just like in the case of the Boss Digital Metalizer.

I was only briefly interested in the JX8P. I remember sitting out in the garden one nice day reading a mag review of the JX10. But I could never decide between a JX3P, MKS30 or the MKS70. To confuse matters even more there was trying to decide between the latter & MKS80. As a result I ended up getting none of them! I always assumed that the main difference between the Jx3p / mks30 and the jx10 / mks70 was the extra envelope on the latter 2. I know that they can also double up to 4 DCO's albeit halving polyphony. Even so I had a sneaking suspicion that the simpler ones possibly had a character of their own. Do you think that is the case?

I've gone through all that in my JX-8P vs MKS-70 video and the 3P vs 8P video. ;-)

Hey Espen just wondering if you’ve ever played a Casio Cz or any of their phase distortion synths? Keep the videos coming great stuff!!

@EspenKraft4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Sure, I've played all of them and I have a CZ1000 as well. I don't care much for either velocity or aftertouch myself, and I usually turn this off in patches I make. When I produce music I always edit my sounds to not have any velocity impact on the sounds. The CZ-line is awesome though and highly usable for synthpop. ;-)

Espen, a slightly unrelated topic, does your JX3-P have a mod on the resonance? It read (and found on mine) the resonance is fairly weak, there are topics on the net to increase it but I am not sure if this is recommended. Thanks!
@EspenKraft3 жыл бұрын
I don't know and I don't care. ;-) I'm a bit of a purist. I don't want to change the factory design really. I can tolerate a display change, since you need to SEE what you're doing on a synth with a display, and when the floppy drive goes south I have learned to tolerate I floppy emulator, even if I dont like it. Mods to change the factory setup in terms of the synthesis isn't something I'm very keen on.

I prefer Jx8p for that 'soundtrack' type of sounds. Just wondering which cuts better in the mix for your type of sound: JX-3p or poly61? do you have a preference?
@EspenKraft4 жыл бұрын
I prefer the 8P for "Soundtrack" myself. The Poly-61 har a very unique sound that no other synth can replicate. I use mine for arpeggios, bells, basses and stuff like that. The 3P excels at strings and bells imo, but both can do so much. As I rely on hardware synths from the 80s for my type of sound I must have quite a few to cover all grounds. I like to sample them though before they go into production. ;-)
@Sonikbytes4 жыл бұрын
@@EspenKraft Interesting that you highlight basses for poly61. I like the clarity of the original rather than listen to the sample that goes through so many D/A conversions. Although the grit is often useful tool as well as you have taught us.
