In 1980, Terry Fox continued his fight against bone cancer with the pursuit of a singular, motivating vision: to run across Canada. Three years after having his right leg amputated six inches above the knee after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma, Fox set out to cover more than a marathon's distance each day until he reached the shores of Victoria, British Columbia. Anonymous at the start of his journey, Fox steadily captured the heart of a nation with his Marathon of Hope. However the 21-year old BC native's goal was not fame, but to spread awareness and raise funds for cancer research. After 143 days and two-thirds of the way across Canada, with the eyes of a country watching, Fox's journey came to an abrupt end when newly discovered tumors took over his body. Two-time NBA MVP, proud Canadian, and first-time filmmaker Steve Nash will share Fox's incredible story of perseverance and hope.
Steve Nash's personal statement:
"I remember being a six-year-old boy and waking up every morning and rushing to the TV to see where Terry was that day. To see him running or hobbling across our country for the spirit of community and looking out for others was something that has stuck with me ever since. To see his face hiding the pain and to hear his words disguising the sacrifice was as motivating and as educational an experience as I've ever had. To be able to tell this story again, to Americans who love an underdog and a story of overcoming and struggle, is something any new filmmaker would love."

I watched this movie last week on ESPN in Australia. It affected me in a profound way. I was so touched that I could hardly speak when telling my wife about it. My deepest respect for Terry Fox, and congratulations to the filmmakers who have produced an absolute masterpiece.

I wish I could have seen him run. I saw Rich Hansen who carried on his dream when I was living in Red Deer. I remember getting up at 5:00 in the morning to see him wheel through. Inspiring, and I will never forget it. Terry Fox Greatest Canadian.

Im a young 26 yr old young man from Brooklyn. I never knew of Terry Fox until I saw his documentary on ESPN (9-28-10). As much as Ive enjoyed all the 30 for 30 movies this was by far the most heartbreaking yet inspiring to watch. You want to talk about courage and strength? He was so young, tough to see him cry as a young man. Cried with him. Heroes get remembered, but legends never die. Terry Fox is both. An example for all of us no matter what race but I see why Canadiens are so proud of him.

Betty Fox, Terry's Mom has just passed away. It was sad news to hear. It sucks big time that Terry had to die when he did, but in the end I guess we'll always remember him as forever young. Rest in peace Betty Fox.

He is the quintessential Canadian. As a side note, I understand all your points, but it must be put into context and not just Quebecers are "assholes", and they're so "ignorant". You can point out flaws in all cultures. I would like to point out since that since this grave mistake on our part; we have raised some of the largest sums on record. We understood our egregious oversight and to this day continue to try to honour this brave young man. I am ashamed that this happened.

@smackyo Your welcome. Its all good @ the end of the day,let those girls do what they do,thats on them you know? But I'll say one thing if I ever get the chance to visit Canada I'd like to go see his statute. But, on another note I know there's alot of "me first" ppl out there, particularly out here in America(trust me I know lol) but I have alot of respect and admiration for you guys up in Canada so it's nothing but respect. Peace.

I am a Canadian who often rips my country. We are a somewhat flawed nation, maybe not so much as every other country on earth, but I often find ways to criticize how things work here because, I live here and it's what I know. But this story is ingrained deep in my heart, as it should be in all Canadians, and it has always made me the proudest I have ever been of our great country.

@NeoNitty Thanks, that mean's a lot. I think what endeared him so much to Canadians is that he was one of our own and it was staggering to see just how much of a normal kid he was. In Terry I think we saw qualities that we identified with as "Canadian" and qualities that we all wanted to possess. The unfortunate thing is that with Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian and this new "me first" generation those are qualities we've gotten away from. It's very unfortunate to say the least.

I first got introduced to Terry 's story when I was in third grade. My teacher had a series of biography's in her classroom, and Terry was one of them. I think his story is one of the most courageous of all time
