I remember when I worked at Gamecrazy in my hometown in 2009, and like every game store, we had a good amount of outdated sports games that were in the $5 bin. So I would have this game playing on the upper corner TV and set the number of players to a CPU vs CPU match, and pretend an actual NFL game was on TV to get people's attention and go from there. We no longer had an overstock of the NFL 2K5 games after that.

The MOST important thing this game absolutely murders Madden in is the fact that the games aren't rigged. Like there's no scripting, there's no catching up making it easier for the losing team. This game is PURE FOOTBALL KNOWLEDGE AND GAME SKILL. I remember blowing people out by 80 or 90 and vice versa.

I'm still playing 2K5. Just played it yesterday. If games can have a feel to them then this one feels like football. The game play, controls and presentation are unrivaled. Current Madden titles don't hold a candle to 2K5. If all I had was 2K5, I'm set for video-game football. It's the hallmark of an all time great game.

An underrated feature (XBOX) was the game using the music you had on your hard drive and playing it "in the stadium" before, during and after the game. I used to get so pumped when "Stand Up" by Ludacris would come on as the camera was panning across the stadium right before a game.

Agree. I never owned the Xbox version back in the days but played at a friends house. I had the ps2 version and when I purchased an Xbox version I was an instant Xbox fan because it ran smoother and load times were fast and just played better overall

This was my senior year of high school, it was pretty much a 50/50 split between 2K/Madden loyalists.....people who had 2K knew what was up. I had a Sports Literature class that year and this was one of the only years that I was more into the NFL than the NBA, and it was largely because of this game. Great vid, Stevie!

I recently bought a PS2 to go back and play the old wrestling games because WWEk20 is awful. This was one of the games I snagged because its the best. I didn't expect to be still blown away and to still have fun playing. I'm doing a franchise with the Colts and killing it with Peyton Manning and Edgerin James. Pretty sure the reason the catch stood even though Jackson clearly only got 1 foot down is because the forceout rule still existed in 2004, so since he clearly would have landed in bounds if not for the DB pushing him out, it was ruled a catch. Would be cool if there was some way to mod the updated rules in but unfortunately that would be incredibly difficult and time consuming.

Not only do I play this game exclusively, I have figured out how to eliminate multiple interceptions while watching a CPU vs CPU game. I have no need for Madden if they aren't going to actually improve the game play, franchise mode, presentation, historic teams, nor customization. Great video, Stevie!

Lol a few years ago I was in a Gamers and was just looking around when I found ESPN NFL 2k5 for a whopping $4.99. I heard about the game before from MilesDawkins247 and figured hell, I’ll definitely give this game a try. Ever since this has been the best football game I’ve ever had. Madden 06 (ps2) also still holds a special place in my heart because it was the first football game I had and had a great soundtrack. The PS2 Maddens were still pretty good, and are way better than today’s Maddens and Xbox 360/PS3. But on top of all, is of course 2k5, nothing touches it when it comes to all the features and gameplay.

I used to be a pro Madden player went on the Bus but never made it to the big show, so to say I love Madden is a true understatement. But, when 2K5 came out I was like hold the phone!!! To this day I’ve never experienced football in a game like I have 2K5 and I have played in thousands of tourneys and labbed for days with pros. I remember buying this game for $20 & I thought it was going to be garbage,but when I popped the game in my PS2 & I almost had a Fred Sanford heart attack because it was THAT DAMN GOOD & MORE FUN!!!! I liked the updated rosters myself along with The Crib feature in which you unlock & have to accomplish milestones. The presentation are fluid & the playbooks are more diverse. You not only get the team PB's but you get to use the old school Cowboys offense & defensive PB's along with the 86 Giants,89 & 90 49ers & more. I forgot if this game had a Create-A-Playbook feature or not,but this game was just too deep,too fun & too good.

In my Opinion, EA sports truly focus on the hype around athletics, which is meant for sales, while 2k sports, capture the fundamentals and behind the scenes of the sports world. You can notice it today in the nba 2k series. EA sports will always capture the fun, but God I miss nfl 2k, pure quality gaming

I love this game. I just created my own team for franchise mode & I always edit the rookies in the draft every year. Only knocks on franchise mode is the nfl draft only selecting qb, rob, g, t & de in first round. I wish you could change your opponent uniforms.
