Antiquated voting system. The criterion should be given to what qualifies a player because they move the bar to fit certain players. Is it a team sport award or individual award? Is it all college players or just certain divisions? Is it a we like your coach or we don’t like your coach award? Back when I was younger they messed over Steve McNair because he played at an HBCU. From 1991-94, McNair totaled 14,496 passing yards, 2,327 rushing yards and 152 total TDs at Alcorn State. In 1994, he passed for 5,377 yards and 47 TDs with 904 rushing yards and finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting behind Colorado's Rashaan Salaam and Penn State's Ki-Jana Carter. The irony of what’s happening is that people are saying because it’s Colorado they are not playing any competition and Travis should not be considered. It’s the same argument people used against Alcorn State University and Steve McNair to secure the win of the trophy for Colorado and Rashaan 30 years ago. Fun Fact: Warren Sapp was also in the running during that year finishing 6th in voting. Give Travis what he has earned if you want the award to still have credibility. The question is why don’t they see the coach and quarterback of the year on that same team?
