For the Olympics, the US had rostered six guards. Diana Taurasi was listed as a shooting guard. Only four played in the Championship game. Taurasi and Loyd did not play. That left Young, Gray, Ionescu, and Plum to handle the guard duties. Young who had played as point guard fouled out as the game went under 5 minutes. In my estimation, the US used size and strength inside to play the game. With Young out, they had no point guard to actually run the team. France closed the game strong. The one player who could have contributed as a point guard was Taurasi and she sat out the game. In previous games, Taurasi was tired and seemed not capable of playing. If Gabby Williams foot had been two inches back, France would have tied the game at the buzzer and was capable enough to beat the US in OT especially since the US had no real point guard. That player they left at home because she was too weak, too immature. So today, ESPN simply assumes this past season will be gone, they will do what they want...as long as they get ratings.
