I met him at a basketball game in Burnett, Tx. We were sitting on the other side of the gym and my student recognized him. He was just sitting by himself, wearing a hat and watching one of his sons play. We went over and just wanted a picture. We ended up sitting with him for the entire second half, had some cokes and hotdogs. Extremely nice man. Never once mentioned boxing. He talked to us about his family. Showed us pictures of his horses and grandkids and gave my student some advice. Even though she was a tennis player. Extremely nice man

The ony fight that I remember him getting really damaged in the 70s was the Ron Lyle fight. The Jimmy Young fight to a point but I think he stopped caring when He lost to Young. But what is "A lot of punches, it is an undefined amount, right? He took more punishment when He was older in the 90 when he stepped up his comp after retirement. But when I talk about taking a lot of punches, Im talking about the amount of rounds fought vs not. Foreman would have received less accumulated damage that Ali given a similar amount of fights fought vs how many rounds. Foreman fights ended earlier by knockout vs Alis more strategic 15 round battles.

Yea but he'd have to open up and fight along the way. Tyson in his prime had a few fights that went the distance. He was successful in all of them. He never lost a decision. @shadowk3 Жыл бұрын
@@matthewmehegan3475 He was over rated. lol The only reason he stood out so much and still stands out today as a boxer is because of his mouth. He was a quick witted smart man and used it to his advantage. Ali's fight began before he ever entered the ring. With Ali, people didn't want to knock out a competitor, they wanted to shut up an obnoxious guy. Ali changed peoples plan and goals and threw them off, in the ring he worked to keep their mind off the fight and on how annoyed they are with him. Ali was basically a boxer with the attitude of an MMA fighter. Foreman was a slow simple minded fighter. If Ali had been a quiet man who kept to himself more like many boxers, his career would have been very different. But he made it his mission to get into the mind of as many people as he could. Though it doesn't have to do with boxing so much as being a good person, Ali also was racist toward other black fighters calling them uncle Tom's and such, talking about how they were fighting for the white man. But when you sit back and think about it, who was really the one performing for the white man and raking in all that white man money....his entire life? That was Ali. He was a hypocrite and he was disrespectful. He was also a poor sportsman. But from a purely performance standpoint, his stats can't be denied. Ali's advantage was that his attitude was well beyond his time and other boxers of the period couldn't understand it.

Ali turned out to be a good human being. But it is very convenient for people to have revisionist history. When people are talking about Muhammad Ali they conveniently leave out the years that he called another great black fighter, Joe Fraiser, gorilla and monkey on a regular basis. And this was after Joe Frazier frequently gave (not loaned) Ali thousands of dollars when Ali was broke after being banned from boxing for 3 years. Joe Frazier also went to bat for Ali, spoke up for him, and fought very hard to get him reinstated. And how did Ali repay him? He repaid him by calling him gorilla and monkey which were terms that racist white people used against our people for centuries. Joe Frazier's son Marvis Frazier said that Joe cried frequently about this and until the day he died was hurt and heartbroken that Ali never would apologize for this. Whenever Ali was questioned about why he did it he only said that he was trying to sell the fight and refused to apologize to Joe. I don't care about "selling the fight". Ali is praised as being a great black civil rights leader even though he did these terrible things to other black men in order to "sell the fight" and to make money.
