We were at the game trying to figure out why the XFL wrote the rule this way. It definitely seems to favor the team who makes the mistake of fumbling the ball.

That is never a safety. If anything it should of been a touchback, and the ball given to the other team to start from their own 20.

As a DC fan, I would’ve rather faced STL and not SEA. I know we beat them twice already, but the first win was first game of year when everyone is rusty, and game 2 we only won by a point. Should be a showdown!

It is unfortunate a team with a losing record makes the playoffs but I get it. It can happen in other leagues as well. The 2 division setup with 4 teams apiece reminds me of the old American Football league in the 1960s prior to the merger with the NFL. Then they just had the winner of the East (New York, Houston, Buffalo, Boston) play the winner of the West( (Oakland, San Diego, Kansas City, and Denver) for most its years. Back then there was only a playoff game if there was a tie for first besides the chamionship game. Being a Battle Hawks fan I am just glad Football has returned to St. Louis. St. Louis fans had to endure too much with owner Stan Kroenke ignoring the new St. Louis stadium development for the larger TV market of L.A.. Then there were also NFL owners realizing their guilt but permitting the move only after Stan Kroenke first signed his Stan Kroenke indemnifcation agreement to protect them from St. Louis lawsuits. I really enjoyed this XFL season and hope it continues for many years. St. Louis is crazed having the Battle Hawks. Should be a good game between Seattle and DC.

St. Louis needs to move on along with Seattle. Best records advance period.. Arlington don’t belong in the playoffs , the lost to Houston today, and now they play them again in the playoffs? Fix this ..

So St Louis should play in the south division championship game even if they're not in the division? That makes zero sense. From the start St Louis knew they had to be top two in their division to have a shot, it didn't go their way, that don't mean its broken. Even look at the 2007 Super Bowl, you had a 16-0 regular season Patriots lose to a 10-6 regular season Giants. Even with adding in the Giants playoff wins and Super Bowl win they still had fewer wins, in more games, than the Patriots had just in the regular season sitting 14-6. Yeah it sucks for St Louis but that's how it goes when you have 4 teams in 2 divisions and honestly Arlington ain't out of it yet regardless of their record.

@cfjen it isn't that different though. Both happened because of how divisions are set up and how playoffs in general work. Especially with all the emphasis placed on transparency, it would be a way worse look for the league to change the rules at the last second just because of popularity.

If the offense fumbles across the goal line and it goes out of bounds it should be a touchback no need to change the rules there. It's like here try from the 1 even after you just lost possession might as well just call it a touchdown from the start... let's keep points going on the board for gambling and playoff seeding so lame.

@@tip358 Yep, some divisions are stronger than others, no way to tell how balanced it will be until they start playing, just the way it goes. The playoff game are also divisional championships so to just put the 4 best teams in would eliminate those championships. The Battlehawks had their chance to put it away last week.
