chris G, I'm a die hard ky fan. And you are totally right. I've been saying this forever, and don't get me wrong. I love coach calls. He's brutally honest, loves his players for real, goes to the mat for them and every year sacrifices ky wins for the sake of the kids futures. So you got to love him at least for that only. He never tries to dissuade players to enter the draft andcome back, even when they should come back and get better. He's absolutely committed to them and not the ky fans. I applaud that in him. What mother and father out in America wouldn't trust their kid to cal for however he has them? He's got their back. There are all kinds of players he has sent to pros prematurely, not because they were ready, but just because of their dreams. He gets it. Her understands these young kids, it ain't all about ky, championships and being the best coach in America. I wish the hell it was sometimes. He's maybe the best recruiter in America, probably a heck of a motivator, you know, rah rah speeches, just watch a midnight madness, it's like some kind of infomercial. Makes me want to puke. And when the whistle blows, and they jump the ball up, he might as well go sit in the frick'n stands and let Payne coach, because he's clueless. I have seen him getting better at managing the game, ie, timeouts, substitutions, who to play. He has gotten better, but hell, hall, pitino, even sad ass Smith have all gotten a championship banner hung, so for the amount of time he's been at ky there isn't much separating him from those others. Now would I trade him for anyone else? Hell no. Man he's too funny. And the players he does get are a lot of fun to watch. They play an exciting style, they don't play as defensively enough for my taste though. I'd be pressing the whole game, as deep and talented and athletically long, so interchangeable at most positions, I think he's not maximizing his roster and needs to Amp up the tenacity. They want to screw around and play down to their competition. They should seeing how many points of margin they could beat opponents by, instead off having to turn it on when they finally get embarrassed by inferior teams. I've run on too much, sorry. Forgive me, why digress?

It depends on what you mean by overrated. While I don't agree with him being "overrated", I think they might mean that he's overrated in the sense that his job is easier because of the amount of talent he has at his disposal. Out of 11 defensive starters, how many get drafted? 9? 10? 11? He has more talent than (almost) anyone else in the country, so of course you would expect success. However, getting that talent to play well together is a different animal. Alabama consistently plays disciplined, smart football. Their offense is lacking at times, and you could call that a knock on his coaching ability, but as a team, no one is more consistently feared than Alabama. Not OSU, Michigan, Clemson. No one. That's why I don't think he's overrated, but I can understand why some people would think that he is.
