"It should happen right after the pitch". . . it did tho😂 the ump didn't want to get criticized and called soft or egotistical or anything and figured safety in numbers, so he called a meeting. I completely agree. Umps are taught to think about their calls, especially major decisions. That's why a runner will be safe at home by 10 feet and the ump will still stand there and think about it for a few seconds before waving him safe. In an unusual situation like this, it's even more important to stop and think. The umpires made the right decision.

May look soft, but I actually support these ejections. There should be no tolerance in baseball to throw a fastball at a guys head intentionally, I don't care what they did to you previously. Only way to get it out of the sport is to eject people when it happens. Besides if the ump doesn't eject these guys the other team is just going to retaliate next inning and do the same thing to them and before you know it you got a brawl on your hands.

@@Danjr704 Yeah that's a decent point. The taunting is not cool either. My issue is that the retaliation of throwing the ball at the head is out of proportion. Theoretically if the MLB really wanted to take that stuff out of the sport they could eject or fine players for taunting, but then there's the risk of making the game void of emotion and stale. It becomes a question of where you draw the line. Baseball is a little unlucky in that regard cause their only options for in-game discipline are to eject a player or not. NFL and NBA for example can enforce penalties and fouls midgames for unsportsmanlike conduct which is more reasonable and thus they can save their ejections for only severe violations.

There are literally just two rules: Don't taunt, and don't intentionally try to injure. (There used to be a third: don't overly celebrate, but that one is pretty much going away. As long as you are just celebrating your achievement and not rubbing it in anyone's face.) That's it. The pitcher should have thrown at the ribs. He does that and he's most likely still in the game. I guarantee you the batter knew he was going to get hit, and he was fine with it. If you can't learn two simple rules, then this game isn't for you. There is a reason for these rules, and it goes way back to the origin of the game.

Now my feelings are hurt and I'm going to at best give you a little bruise or at worst hit you in the head to show you how much you hurt my feelings. We are already in bad spot because you made a good play, so now instead of trying to show you I'm good at the game and beat you back, I have to put another runner on base for you just to make sure you know I'm not happy. Bet you won't make me look bad anymore, now that I've shown you I'm so good and tough by giving you an ouchie in a scenario where you can't fight back." Quit acting like a child and compete. It’s almost like this crap would stop if ejections like this happened more often. It’s pathetic when teams get someone back by beaming them instead of trying to strike em out. It’s pretty much saying ‘he’s too good for us.’

So sick of these "unwritten rules" in baseball.... If you don't like the hitter hitting a HR and doing a little taunting then make better pitches and get him out.... Don't throw a projectile 90 mph at his head.... If someone did that out in public they would be arrested.... Ridiculous....

Good job by the umpires. This nonsense where teams pitch at batters has to stop, especially if the pitcher throws at the head area. Maybe if managers get tossed as well, it will stop.

Baseball players have the softest egos of any athletes..so the batter looked in your direction after a Homer and Austin Peays response is "Lets beam him in the head" baseball players are mentally softest players in sports. This is flat out embarrassing.

If you look at the pitch that was hit you will see the way the catcher normally is situated. For the head shot he has his right leg ready to push out to catch the missed head shot. It came out later that the ump did not originally call the foul until the catcher looked down to his left arm and said, " we'll get you next time". That's when the ump jumped in.
