I’d almost prefer the Bears going and getting Travon Walker from the Jags. Walker’s still only 23 years old and was the number 1 overall pick 2 years ago. We’ve seen Eberflus and Eric Washington develop these defensive linemen. Gervon Dexter has exploded this year. Sweat’s been a beast since day one. Darrell Taylor and Austin Booker keep showing flashes. You could probably get Travon Walker for a 3rd. That’s a bargain deal and you give Eric Washington, who is a phenomenal defensive line coach, a 23 year old DE who is a former number 1 overall pick.

@anthonyrusso75852 күн бұрын
Disagree with you guys. It doesnt matter who we put on the line, no team is going to be able stop both Maxx Crosby AND Hutchinson at the same time unless they have two hall of fame tackles. How many teams in the NFL have ever had that? If detroit gets another elite pass rusher, they will start wrecking games in the division and the gap between the lions and everyone else is widened. The bears window is opening, there is logic in Poles getting aggressive to go get an edge, then you can spend a whole offseason to plug 2 holes (worst case scenario) on the offensive line.
@OD_green72 күн бұрын
Totally agree, my line of thinking as well. It isn’t going to just be for one season and Hutchinson will come back eventually. Not even the Lions O-Line would be able to block those two rushers over the course of a 60 minute game.

It's actually a bit scary when I see what JT points out with the Bears O-line blocking. The Bears have gotten better, but still a long way from elite. I would love to land Maxx Crosby or one of the other elite pass rushers. But we gotta prioritize protecting our biggest asset in Caleb Williams. The Bears can't win anything if he's on his back every other play.

As we are talking about improving the O-lineman we can also go back to the 9th pick of the draft. As much as I am a fan of Rome and hope he has great success with the bears and this is NOT about him. It's about not taking a Lineman on either sides of the ball. Bryon Murphy was there or even a good LT could have been taken at the 9th pick. Go back a year earlier and Jalen Carter was sitting there at 9 as well. I know retrospect is always 20/20 but there is fair criticism to be had and I am a big fan of what Ryan Poles has done.

That would be an illusory correlation. At surface level, one would cite that you’re correct but digging deeper reveals the aforementioned illusory correlation. Poles wasn’t just trying to block a division rival in the Claypool trade, he genuinely was trying to evaluate Fields and thought he would help the WR room to be able to make the biggest decision he’s made yet - QB.

@joncasec17 сағат бұрын
Saw the question in the thumbnail and immediately said no. We already blocked a divisional rival from getting another player under Poles when we traded for Claypool and how did that turn out? Not to say that Crosby would come to Chicago and immediately become a terrible player, but why make a move thinking about another team and what they might do? The Bears have to focus on making their own team better and it’s a much more difficult task when you don’t have draft capital.
@AkamatsuCreative2 күн бұрын
Another Devil's advocate point-->Why is the assumption that you can't fix the offensive line if you sign an impact-making defensive FA? You can't predict the timing of when certain stars become available. Look at what signing Derrick Henry did for Baltimore. And You can't necessarily instantly solve your O-Line problems through the 2025 draft, even in the top rounds. You can draft starting O-line with 2nd and 3rd rounders. Also, you can NEVER have enough pass rush, and the D-line is only a Montez Sweat injury away from being really mediocre. It's far from 'set.' Also, saying We'll be 'ready' to compete for a Super Bowl only when a specific set of ducks are aligned is not the way things work. Sometimes ambitious personnel changes can dictate when you're SuperBowl ready. Not saying I think we should trade for a Crosby or Garrett, but just that doing so doesn't mean we're forced to stand pat with a bad O-line. You have to multitask, be agile and be opportunistic to change your team's fortunes.
@alexanderferdkoff99742 күн бұрын
First, quality OL personal is simply a rare commodity and there are none available in this trade market. Second, you have a top 5 defense already and adding Crosby will make it this unit #1 in the NFL. Against the OL's and the QBs you are facing within your own division it will be critical to have a pass rush generated by the front 4 without bringing extra personal. Third, this narrative that you "don't trust" Poles to bring in OL help in the off season is ludicrous. Every GM makes mistakes, the question is how often vis a vis other GM's. Ryan has drafted well, he will fix this issue. The question is what does Crosby cost. If the Bears can leverage Herbert (5th round value), 1st rounder (25), 2nd rounder (26) for Crosby I think it will make the Bears instant super bowl contender.

We absolutely should do whatever is necessary to keep Crosby or Garrett away from DET or anyone else in the division. We still have $70 mil in cap space & most of the starters outside of Allen & Jenkins are already signed for next season. Jenkins is likely being allowed to leave & draft a new Guard in the first 2rds, but if he's resigned we don't need the pick so pick you poison on that. If we did the Mack deal again (people forget we got a 2nd back in that deal) we would have 2 2nd Rd picks in both the next 2 drafts where we should be still getting starting quality players.

No way go after these guys! It’s now all about the O line. I have seen enough of CW at this point to know this for sure. Give him a line that gives him a few more seconds and this guy will DESTROY defenses. A franchise QB demands investment in a franchise O line. In the modern NFL, a great offense can carry a less than great defense. This isn’t 1985 anymore. Draft, Free agency and Cap space should be weighted towards the offensive side of the ball.

You change the game and would definitely take the north and never give it back. Allen ain't gonna be here next yr. anyways can fix the line with signing Oline and draft majority of Oline legends are drafted in later rounds. I say if we can get em get him. We have better draft picks then the lions do. They were good last yr we werent. Those draft picks are used to find a Crosby type. We have a rookie contract for Caleb Williams. The oline has actually improved and we still have a couple guys coming back who can help as well. The bears have a talented roster and can fast track to win now mode by accumulating more talent and playmakers. You add either of those two elite pass rushers to the defense who hasn’t allowed 21 points in forever we talking about an elite defense. Defense will always win championships especially when you got the right talent on offense to make the plays when they need to be made which I believe the bears have. We are in the toughest division in football a dominant defense gives you a better chance at coming out on top and it’s wide open right now the bears should absolutely be trying to improve their roster the best way possible and if that’s an elite pass rusher go get him it’s already hard to score on em make it damn near impossible
