Alabama can win the SEC all they want to, but if you have a 13-0 B1G champ, 13-0 FSU, 13-0 Washington & then Texas and Bama both sitting there 12-1 Texas will get the nod. While the SEC has been better overall, Texas’s strength of schedule has actually been better according to FPI (10th vs 29th), and at least comparable by most other metrics. Texas should have at most 1 less ranked win (possibly the same amount if Tennessee falters this week) and all of Alabama’s ranked opponents have been played at home (vs 1 for Texas). If Alabama beats Georgia by 20 and Texas wins by 7 I can see an argument for Alabama, but not right now. Hopefully Florida St loses and this all becomes just a theoretical exercise.

Here's the difference. Oregon played in Lubbock. Tech played in Austin, so not really a true comparison. And let's also be honest here, Oregon has been more consistent than Texas. Now I'm not trying to take anything away from the Horns, but those are probably the factors the committee is looking at. With that said, there's still a lot of football left to go. Usually the comparison that entails "you lost to a team with x losses" kicks in when they don't have common opponents or haven't played each other. In this case, yes, Texas has a loss to a 2 loss Oklahoma, but Bama has a loss to TEXAS. At home. By 2 scores. If Bama beats Georgia, then its probably Georgia that goes home. Depending on what happens in the PAC 12 and the ACC. Because Georgia would be a 1 loss team without a conference championship. Rough but fair. Probably why its better to move to a 12 team playoff than the 4 which never made sense.

This is why I've never been a fan of the current college football structure. I'll be honest, I'm not a Texas fan, but at the same time in all fairness, they are one of the best teams out there and they did beat Alabama on their home field. The so-called experts are already talking, should Georgia lose, somehow, someway Georgia still may secure one of those four slots. I have always had a problem with the system admitting two teams from one conference, and the SEC and BIG 10 often benefit from it. The season is still not over, and at the same time, I feel for Washington, FSU and Texas should they all run the table. Someone is going to get hosed unless those teams mentioned eventually lose a game.
