This panel was JUST LAUGHING about the tactics used by BIG CLUBS in Europe like turning the heat all the way up in locker rooms or only pumping cold water to the showers to keep their opponents OFF THEIR GAME. But America has a game in the COLD, like most games this time of year, and it is "PATHETIC"? These dudes just dislike America, and that we are finally starting to gain some respect in world footy. I would respectfully disagree. We do have an identity. It is to basically rely on our midfielders to scrum around and press to get the ball but then simply distribute it to the wings who are either supposed to get in behind the defense or send in crosses. But that is it. No plan B. And no interest whatsoever in creating through the middle.

The US have always reminded me abit of England in that they are known for physicality and athleticism however as seen recently with England they desperately miss that creative mid that a lot of countries have like Modric and Ozil. I think Pulisic could play that role but his confidence seems to be in the mud or he just isn’t as good as we thought. All of this mess and ugly soccer is all on Gregg Berhalter. He is a joke of a coach. The fact that the team won 3 straight against MX was all about the individual players wanting it more. None of it was because Gregg had a master coaching strategy or tactics. His lack of strategy shows in every game, because of how this team starts every game so slowly and underwhelmingly. It like he leaves the team to figure it out in the first half. He is a joke and needs to go as soon as possible, after qualifying (or not).

Love Burley. Even when I disagree with him, I know where he stands. He is brutally honest and he is 100% right about USSF's "small mentality." IF we truly are more talented than the other teams in the region then we should start acting like it. Trying to freak the out the other side with concerns other than your actual play is what underdog teams do, because they know they can't win straight up. It's why Canada played the USA and Mexico in the arctic cold, because they knew it would favor their bunker/counterattacking strategy. We don't play that way anymore and shouldn't be sending our team into venues that encourage that kind of play. We beat Mexico straight up in good conditions. There is no way we wouldn't do the same to bottom feeding Honduras. Yet USSF sends our kids into the frozen tundra of Minnesota where bunkering will be facilitated because people can't dribble/pass/trap/shoot like they want? Like Craig said..."pathetic" and "small minded"

These guys were just joking about how big clubs in Europe make the opponents showers cold and turn the heat in the locker rooms up to 100 to make their opponents uncomfortable and mess them up. But America wants to play in the cold, in the winter, and that is "pathetic"? Isn't Europe freezing when they play 90% of the schedule? Is playing in the cold something new in footy? What am I missing?
@winger0611-jl
@winger0611-jl 2 жыл бұрын
@@chance2413 Playing in cold is typically avoided when possible. Especially when you have the MUCH more talented team. Playing in sub-zero conditions is stupid. Not only do you risk frost bite (for BOTH teams), it encourages poor play as trapping/passing/dribbling all degrade due to numb bodies, thick clothing, and difficulty breathing. This is completely different than hot showers or turning up the heat in a locker room. Put it this way. We easily beat Mexico in nice conditions. We CRUSHED Honduras last cycle at home in nice conditions. Why are we overthinking it this time? They have zero wins. Their team is in chaos. This was not necessary and actually helps them.

Again, ALL OF THIS just points to the MEDIOCRE MENTALITY that US Soccer has; hiring Gregg Berhalter in the first place after the EMBARRASSMENT of the 2018 cycle. Not understanding that if we EVER want to be a team that can seriously compete to win the World Cup, we NEED to change our focus from physicality, fitness and athleticism (main elements of the most popular American sports) to skill, technique and creativity. The fact that we still have a pay to play system is shocking. The fact that US Soccer thinks that if they make a couple of corny hype videos and a couple top US players drag us to the World Cup or a round of 16 by sheer luck or amazing play, that everything is fine. It's insulting. I get it, it's unrealistic to expect us to be among the top teams in the world considering soccer is our 4th/5th sport, was even lower on our sports list even 10 years ago, and most nations have had soccer as their top sport for over 120 years. But even with that, we should be producing more and better players. This is the US, we need to raise our standards. Frankly, until soccer becomes more mainstream and we see that there are more Americans who really understand the game at the fundamental level, we need to hire European or South American managers. And I guarantee some really good ones would be willing to coach us; it would be a really interesting project with a good young team and a huge market that is waiting. I'm tired of this

Some countries I been to care about two things, living in prosperity and Football/soccer. In America is not even the last two things they care about.🤦‍♂️ It's only the BIGGEST sport on this planet, by far!

Playing in these little 20,000 seat stadiums with ridiculous prices is a problem, too. We should be playing in big stadiums with reasonable prices so families can attend. And if there are a lot of supporters for the opposing team, so what? We go out there, and we put on a great show, and maybe some of those fans say, "Hey, that US team is kind of fun to watch. I'm going to check them out some more." And that's how you win them over. You will never gain supporters by alienating your potential fan base.

Our toughest boys now are Weston, Brooks & Miazga but only one them gets selected. The team is very young and has a cupcake mentality in terms of fighting for what you have unlike canada where most of their boys came from poverty and are willing to throw down for their livelihood.
