I'm just gonna be blunt: drawing England is a decent result, but it's hardly one anyone outside the US will remember in 10 years' time. Better teams have drawn or even lost to worse teams, it happens all the time. Drawing Wales is a bad result. Beating Iran 1-0 is a good result, but it's far from an earth-shattering one. The US played attractive football, but their results were just average. The Netherlands may not be so preoccupied with playing the kind of high-energy, intense football that Americans love, but they have MUCH more individual quality in their squad and they are managed by an all-time great coach. Energy and intensity don't win World Cup knock-out games; tactics do. And this US team was always going to be outplayed in that regard. I am honestly a bit confused as to why everyone was so positive about the USMNT's chances beforehand. This is not a bad result, let alone a shocking one. The US were the underdogs, and in the end they got outperformed by a better squad with a better plan and a better manager. It's not a surprise at all. No endless analysis needed. The US is an outsider at best in men's international football, while the Dutch are serial contenders belonging to international football's elite. This was a logical outcome to anyone outside North America.

I’m a massive fan and I knew our chances were very slim. There are plenty of knowledgeable fans here and saying the US are football outsiders is utter nonsense. We are ranked in the top 15 in the world and get out of the 1st round in the World Cup pretty consistently. Our players are playing in top leagues all over Europe. Are we a great team yet? No. Are we better then The Netherlands? Obviously not. We were the second youngest team there and our future is bright!

Why are you beating down the US as if an underdog country believing in their team is only exclusive to the US? I'm sure Saudi Arabia thought they could go all the way after beating Argentina. As an American that watches the sport, us getting to the knockout stages is a big deal for us because we didn't even qualify last time. Also, anything the US does internationally that's positive should be shameful to y'all because football isn't even our #3 sport and it's #1 for almost everybody else. Just saying 🤷🏿‍♂️

Frank made a great point on the livestream earlier about how the US soccer system is too pay to play and many families are simply priced out of being able to send their kids to play organized soccer. Contrast that with a country like France, where even kids from the poorest backgrounds can play in organized youth leagues from the very start. US has a much deeper talent pool than what we’ve seen, but the youth system eliminates kids from families that can’t afford to pay to play.

All you really need to play football is a ball and a place to play. Many Brazilian superstars started out playing the game as a kid on the streets, they got discovered by official clubs much later. Americans have unrealistic expectations for the USMNT, they're expecting them to always get to the quarter finals and beyond in each World Cup when you have players that are playing in the mls, not even starters for the European teams that they play in or are just okay in quality. They played alright and at times great for a squad that's still missing a few key pieces like a proper number 9

It's not that we have unrealistic expectations we know Netherlands are the better team the problem is that the team could perform so much better if we had a proper manager. You mentioned that we have players in the mls in our xi that's because of our manager. We have players in Europe that are superior to these mls guys but he refuses to call them. We have Pefok from union Berlin in germany and ricardo pepi from the eredivise who has played 9 games and has 6 goals and two assists. Instead of calling them our manager takes an mls striker it's riduculous.

All 3 Holland goals were preventable with some basic football skills and game knowledge. 1) Mark the players, don't get lost watching the ball 2) Keeper should not make catastrophic mistakes when in possession of the ball 3) Don't put the shortest number 9 against the tallest defense 4) Don't panic when in one to one situation with a keeper. Stay cool and score. 5) Shoot at the goal more often. You can't score if you don't shoot. 6) When recruiting new players consider working class kids, not only the rich... p.s. Game against England was rigged. The two coaches are good friends in personal life...

Hi just a small message from the "opponent" here, don't be to hard on the US players and coach. You guys have a great team full of potential, but in contradiction to some other sports football (soccer) is more than just putting a lot of energy in it. This young squad will have to learn how to play different kind of tactics, and that is not something to be a shamed of. Still four years to go before the tournament will be in North America again, by than all those young lads will have learned a lot. What the team does need is a coach who has experience with all the different playing styles, but who also understands the American mentality, and that is probably the biggest hurdle. But the team itself has already stolen our hearts ❣Thanks for the atractive football you guys did show us these last weeks, much support and love from the Netherlands.

Our strength: the youth academies of the Dutch clubs like Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV Eindhoven. Through hard work we can occaisionally be successfull on an international level and show our skills and then I think we at least deserve some respect, remember we have a pool of 17 milion people and club budgets are ten times smaller then the bigger teams in Germany, England and Spain. There are a lot Ajax players in the selection and if you see Ajax in their competition they are worse than before. How is dest feeling, being half dutch... Maybe i should have choose the Netherlands to play for. Because he was offered to play for the Netherlands. But great job for the usa, the first half they made it pretty hard for the Dutch in my opinion

I'm Dutch and American, and the US was only better in the first 10 minutes. After that Netherlands controlled the game. Having more ball possession doesn't make you the better team. Winning the game makes you the better team. Also, Sergino Dest left Ajax way too early. If he played for the Netherlands he would be 3rd choice behind Dumfries and Frimpong.

Adams was weak, passes behind players several times, constantly yelling at others rather than focusing on his own game, and proved he wasn’t the man to captain the team. Zimmerman never should have been on the pitch. And stop telling me it’s because they’re young. The US style of offense is way too measured and structured. If they get the ball past the midline, they settle, slow down, look around, and try some very uncreative plays. They don't have the required talent to score doing that, to be fair not many teams do. But what they need instead is to attack faster and learn to exploit unrelated situations.

One question: Can you watch the sequence leading to the first goal and explain to me how the US coach could have helped Tyler Adams mark Memphis, who was 5 yards behind him and outsprinted him to the 18 yards box? Our midfield (Adams) ran out of gas. They didn't want the ball. They didn't try to run with the ball. They didn't follow their markers properly. That's where the game was lost. Additionally, they should have isolated Dest + Weah on Blind/Ake. Instead, they overloaded that side, minimizing the space and giving Blind so many ways to recover.

@@henrim9348 Do you want me to explain away the other two goals while I'm at it? I'm not going to go back and look and see who is to blame for what/why/wherefore. I coach soccer and I can tell you that your defense shouldn't give away goals that easily once in a game let along three times.

First goal was a marking error by Tyler Adams. He lost 10 yards on Memphis on a 40 yards sprint. That's pathetic. Memphis was in his own half, pass the ball, runs forward , runs ahead of Adams and is wide open ( 5 yards from trailing Adams). Third goal is just lack of communication. ARod had to pinch inside to help, nobody is picking up the back post. I blame Yedlin on this goal. He was in no mans land. The USA midfield was poor today. Very poor. I would have replaced Adams and not McKennie.
