Most impressed by the fact that he didn't quit in the 5th round. He's really developed his mental strength over the years. Always had the skill. The only question mark was over his will.
@closinginonclosure16 күн бұрын
Why do you say that like you're surprised, and say "the only question mark was over his will". That's a weird thing to say, because anyone who's followed his career, would know that he answered that question several fights ago. He overcame that a few years ago. He's gone through tough adversity in recent fights and overcame it and found a way to win. Even in Olivera vs Chandler 1 he had adversity. Olivera's recent opponents like Chandler, Poirier, Gaethje, all acknowledged that he wasn't the same fighter in that regard, and he wouldn't quit on himself. Chandler specifically talked about it before this fight too. So, that really wasn't a question for anyone who's payed attention. I say it's a weird thing for you to say, because to know he used to check out when things really tough, you'd have to have watched his old fights to have seen that. But if you've actually been watching all of his fights, you'd know that he's been reformed for a few years now, and there's no question. So it's almost like you haven't watched and are repeating something you heard someone say in an old interview.
@intellectual_honesty596116 күн бұрын
@@closinginonclosure I take your point, and I've seen all his fights and yes, we've seen him come back and win fights WHEN the title was on the line. However, we've not seen him do this since the loss the Islam, and since he's not been champion, so naturally there were question marks resurfacing over his will to be a champion again, especially after how easily he was submitted in that fight (when he wasn't front-running). So seeing him come back today and show that he's got the desire to be champion again, when it was very easy to quit, and when he's not fighting to remain champion, I think it's a fair question.
@closinginonclosure16 күн бұрын
@intellectual_honesty5961 Huh? Not only does that not make sense to me, but it's not true, with all due respect. It sounds to me like you're saying that we've seen him push through adversity in title fights, but we can't say he's not a quitter until we see him push through adversity in non title fights as well? That job doesn't add up. And it's not true, because we have seen him tested outside of championship fights. It was part of his journey to the belt in the first place. Also, Olivera missed weight against Gaethje "which waa a whole others controversial topic" but he couldn't become champion with a win, and had adversity and won. Yes, he lost to Islam, but then fought Dariush and Tsarukyan, and never showed any signs of quitting or looking for a way out in any of those fights. And for the fights that he just wasn't presented with real tough adversity, you can't say he couldn't have handled it, just because he wasn't presented with it. I haven't seen any of his recent opponents question his willingness to stay in the the fight when things get tough. I also haven't seen any analysts, commentators, or people who cover the sport, raise it as an unanswered question. It's been the complete opposite. Everyone understands that he's no longer that kind of fighter. We've seen all of his recent opponents acknowledge that it's not a question, and Charles himself has talked about it and credits his children as his motivation. I hate seen anyone questioning it in the past few years. Can you cite any interviews or anything, where anyone in the UFC/ MMA space is saying that it was still a question whether he'd quit or not when things got tough, before this fight, and not from before he was champion?
@intellectual_honesty596116 күн бұрын
@@closinginonclosure This seems to me a LOT to you. It really doesn't mean that much to me buddy. Are you a super fan or related to him? I had question marks again over his will following the ease at which he lost to Islam. Perhaps he didn't want the burden of being a champion anymore (it comes with a lot of pressure and media obligations; he seemed burned out). There's a reason why all champions find it hard to regain their belts once it's lost. So yes, there were question marks for me over his will and desire to be a champion again. This isn't me saying he is a "quitter", because he has more heart than any person in a KZbin comment section, to be called that by a "fan". You've made that strawman assumption yourself and argued against it. This is me saying that I personally had questions marks over his will to be champion again. He answered that question for me today (not just in his performance, but his post-fight interview). Yes, I've seen him push through adversity and become champion and he should be lauded for that. But in the lead up to the Islam fight, he really didn't seem that motivated or mentally checked in, and it showed in his poor performance; Islam bullied him. And his lack of desire to call for an immediate rematch was noted. It seemed like he was all too happy to let go of the title and the pressure it brings. So when he was presented with a perfect opportunity to lose the Chandler fight in the 5th round, knowing that a win would put him back in line against Islam, yes, I had question marks over his desire to be in that pressure position once again, against someone who beat him pretty easily. So if that doesn't make sense to you, then it is what it is. We move on... all the best.
@closinginonclosure15 күн бұрын
@intellectual_honesty5961 What? "Means a lot to me...am I a super fan or related to him" Haha. Real cute attempt and condescendingly insulting me, guy. But, me viewing the sport as a spectator, and being observant while watching interviews and stuff, definitely doesn't translate to being some super fan. I'm just a long time fan of the sport, who has a brain. Using your own logic, you could apply your "means a lot to you/super fan" words to yourself, just because you're talking about the same topics. You're just missing a lot and getting things wrong. I find it very interesting and funny how in your initial comments, you kept saying "we've" and were speaking in a context, as if most fans and people surrounding the sport had these questions about Charles. Now, all the sudden, you've pivoted to say "this is me saying that I personally had questions" and "me". Haha. I suggested that it was just you from the start, and I haven't seen anyone questioning that about Charles. Why didn't you just agree with me then and clarify that, yes, you were just talking about yourself? 🤔 Instead, you doubled down. It's only after I asked you to cite examples, that you shifted to saying it's just you. You sound like a guy who says something that wasn't accurate, got called out, and decided to resort to trying to insult me and be condescending, rather than just admitting you were either wrong or just haven't followed his career very closely. Regardless, you can think whatever you'd like. At least you aren't on your island by yourself anymore, and you finally caught up with everyone who actually follows the sport closely enough to know that Charles put that "quitting" thing to rest a long time ago. That's both inside and outside of title fights. In fact, the main talking point for a lot of people has been specifically that, and how he used to quit on his but doesn't anymore. You're a few years behind in realizing that, but glad you caught up in the end. Haha. No hard feelings, my friend. Thank for the laughs and conversation, and enjoy the rest of your Sunday. All the best, and don't bother replying. I'm out the door, and won't be reading further replys or responding. We've both shared our views, and you shifting towards this condescending and grasping at straws out of a defensive mindset, rather than sharing facts, is a path of conversation I'm not interested in going down. We'll just go in circles. To sum it up, you were just speaking from your own personal view, and that view was limited to ensure you knew. But now you know more. Charles is a beast, and I'm sure we both look forward to his next fight. Take care ✌️
