If kane isn’t going to be pressing and sticking to the last defender then it doesn’t matter all that he’s achieved because his style of play would be hindering England regardless. Dropping too deep and not stretching the play is making it a lot harder to attack and it’s clogging up the midfield. Fodan needs to be at CAM if you’re not going to drop him and actual cm that can defend or has positional awareness has to be on instead of Gallagher and Trent.. I never envisaged Trent Alexander Arnold as a holding midfield player. I always imagined him as an attacking midfield player in later years. Junior moved from left back for Brazil in 1982 to attacking midfielder for Brazil in 1986. Paul Brietner moved from full back for West Germany in 1974 to attacking midfielder for West Germany in 1982. Leonardo moved from full back for Brazil in 1994 to attacking midfielder for Brazil in 1998. Arnold will not get into the England team as an attacking midfielder at this stage but it seems only Southgate envisioned him as a defensive midfielder. Very strange. Gallagher is an average footballer who would fit more in the Scotland team than an England team who want us to believe they are one of the best teams out there.
