Great video, but you never mentioned Quasarprintf!! He's the god of cannon rushes, even if he doesn't win tournaments. He cannon rushes every game.

I like the cannon rush. It adds diversity to the protoss toolset and gives a unique cheese to the protoss, like the 12 pool for zerg, or the proxy marauder for terran. Otherwise, protoss is just a very safe cheese kinda race (excluding things like coco’s Flower build), and that’s not as fun, imo. More risk, more fun.

I think we'll be making a separate, larger piece about tower rushing in RTS games, including other titles as well. I think it'd be a good place to expand on some ladder heroes there :)

gaulzi were one of the players that mastered cannon rush the most, he did that almost every games and managed to go at very high rank even though players knew what he was going to do

Dunno if this would be a good topic, but none of the big casters have ever gone into what actually happens with Korean (and soon Finnish) military service. Coming from a country that doesn't have anything of the sort, i think it would be interesting. You could talk about both whether they're allowed to play in tournaments, but also what the military service involves. (E.g duration, breaks, if there's any deployment overseas, what they learn, how they assemble rifles etc, i dunno, not a military guy, you could maybe ask non gamers who did compulsory service about it). Maybe why Korea and Finland both have it (a little obvious knowing their neighbours.) But you could also talk about how it affected (and will affect) the leaderboard, people who managed to come back, people who fell out of sc2). Anyway, just a thought about something that I've never seen covered in some real depth. Hopefully there'd be enough to make an interesting video there. There must be some Korean/Finnish fans of yours who could help. I'd love to know what they go through.

I quite enjoy all sort of rush or proxy strategies, including cannon, but also proxy barracks, planetary, gate, robo or hatch. Or inbase Nexus if youre SoS.

No it is not. It way too strong for the cheese it is. There are GM level players doing this opening every game which should not be possible.

I like to watch it. Played myself until end of hots, and have never canon rushed myself on ladder, just on some team game and training match. Feels so unprotoss..

Cannons are core Protoss structure. Been part of the game for decades. Like it or not, its a specific type of strategy protoss are given. Dont like it? WC3 or AoE are always available.

As a macro toss player, I find cannon rushes to be just as annoying as the next guy. For people to go as far as to say that they need to be completely removed though, is a little much I think. If you just scout it early enough, then it's basically a non-issue. It only really becomes a problem when you scout it too late. It's a sh!tty feeling when it happens, but it is a legitimate strategy, unfortunately. lol Now Widow Mines... Those need to gtfo. XD

Cannon rush is an amazing strategy. Also, the fact that it only takes 1 probe is amazing. And as someone who has occasionally cannon rushed, I can say with confidence that its a bad strategy unless the map really lets you, as the strategy is just worse than the defense so its harder to win with it

Cannon Rush is a good thing, it is in fact a skill check for who ever is being Cannon Rush.

Not really a skill check, more of an intel check. It neither takes a lot of skill to execute or to counter, but it's just super annoying. As Terran or Zerg, you can do similar things like bunker rush or proxy hatch into spines/spores, and if not scouted, these can straight up win you the game too, but they are generally far less effective. Whenever I win with such a strategy, it feels empty, like I didn't improve my skill, rather I sucker punched my opponent. I don't know how people can feel good about themselves climbing ladder doing this.

The bad thing about SC2 is the horrid match making. Many people I know, and try to get into SC2, get shredded all throughout their matchmaking. We are getting into matches like 1-2mins, but they are so imbalanced. It’s wastes 10 mins of a game that is either too easy to win, or was never winnable. I’d rather wait 7 mins for a good game, than waste an entire night. And my friends don’t play anymore because of being silver matched with masters and master. And teams are even worse. Playing against teams entirely made up of 1v1 grandmasters. Now they don’t play, and no wonder SC2 is dying.

All right... I think it is a good strat sometimes, BUT my issue is not with Cannon Rush itself, it is with the fact that ANY SORT OF DEFENSIVE capability Blizz try to give for Protoss always is used for some sort of Cheese, and that has been the cause of a big problem on the defense in the early game mainly on the past.

They just implement these defenses without accounting the overall ripple effect that might potentially affect future matches. That ripple effect that players, for a period of time, will learn and execute wacky strategies like Cannon Rushes. This is why extensive testing is important for RTS developers.
