Alright, y'all, here's my recipe for a slightly different take on the infamous Espresso Plus Orange Juice
Ingrediants:
100g sliced cara cara oranges
100g sliced blood oranges
250g cane sugar
125g water
3g stare anice (or 4)
7g cinnamon sticks
Double espresso
8oz Topo Chico/sparkling water
Ice
Steps:
Melt sugar and water together on medium-high heat. Once dissolved, add both oranges and spices. Reduce heat to a simmer and allow to steep/reduce for 10-15 minutes. Strain out solids and leave finished syrup to cool before bottling.
Add 20g (or to taste) of syrup to the bottom of a tall glass. Add ice and then 8oz of sparkling water. Mix. Carefully pour espresso over top (stir in crema for reduced chances of explosion).
Stir carefully.
Garnish (optional).
Enjoy!

Hi Morgan ! Your take on this drink looks so good ! I'm in the process of openning my own coffee shop & i want to have some "signature beverages" on my menu. Some drinks that stands out. I was wondering if you would mind if I incorporate your creation on my menu ? You're giving me so much motivation to persevere & to learn more and more about the world of coffee & i really would be glad if you're down with the idea. 😁 (Oh and sorry if there's any Spelling errors, I speak french so english is sometimes not that easy 😂)

It's called bumble coffee and it's really popular in Russia. So you put ice into the cup, add 2 pumps of caramel syrup, then pour orange juice and a shot of espresso on top. If you'll pour espresso on an ice cube, it wouldn't mix with the juice and you'll see brown and orange layers that remind of a bumble bee

When Shrub syrups were big a few years ago I tried making cold brewed coffee in apple cider vinegar and added the right amount of sugar to make a syrup. No one could get it. It smelled like the best coffee and tasted like sucking on a sour fruit candy + coffee. I can see now that coffee with sweet and sour can be an acceptable flavor profile. Will try:)

Holy crap! Espresso and tonic was my daily driver for quite some time when I saw this espresso and orange juice trend, and enjoyed it. About a month ago I decided to try them together. I generally like peach syrup in espresso and tonic, but was out so tried blood orange syrup, and have REALLY been enjoying it. I was shocked to see you making it. That said, I just have a crappy bottle of syrup. The one you made looks amazing! When I make mine, I use about 7oz of tonic water. I specifically use tonic, not sparkling water. Then I add about 1.5oz of orange juice, 2 pumps of blood orange syrup, and then layer a double espresso on top. It is so good!

If I might add an idea here for helping with the tonic explosion I like doing this method! I chill my glass, chill my syrup, and let my espresso cool down a bit. However, I do not add ice. Then I like to add espresso and ingredients first. Lastly slowly pouring the tonic water in over the espresso with the glass tilted to mitigate the explosion. If you don't add ice, emulsification doesn't occur as rapidly and helps alot! Also, it means that you get more bubbles in your drink!

In the summer I make iced coffee with Korean yuja cha in it (yuja cha is citrus fruit made into a jelly that you stir into water to make tea, it's a lovely hot drink in the winter especially if you have a cold!). I mix about a tablespoon of it with just enough hot water to dissolve then add it to my iced coffee. My local Walmart has a big jar for about $6, so it could be worth trying for anyone who doesn't want to make a simple syrup on their own.

Ooh this is intriguing! The first time I tried an espresso tonic it included muddled orange, bitters, and an orange twist & I was OBSESSED. I still make them that way, but I’ve also done mango, tangerine, and cocktail cherries. As a shortcut I’ll do espresso with San Pellegrino blood orange or grapefruit soda (it’s not as good but it’s good enough). ANYWAY. Definitely gonna try doing a spiced orange version now!
