Cool! Noticing how relatively sparsely populated it seems to be, was that filmed on a weekend or weekday?

If I am not mistaken, it was on a weekday. This route I took is usually sparsely populated. Almaty city in general is quite sparsely populated with the exception of special holidays like "Naruryz" or "Victory Day"
