A drone is probably the most important thing, most of your practice should be with a drone, and when you turn it off naturally you’ll be able to hear even the slightest bit of sharp or flat.

Does practicing with a drone distract from equal temperament and encourage more just temperament?

IME, it doesn't. I think it's something that when used as part of a wider practice routine can be really valuable and I've never heard of anyone having an issue with temperament when subsequently playing in different situations. The benefits are huge, especially for those who are still establishing their technique and finding their way around the instrument.
