Essential items for using public bathrooms

Thank you for another great video, Ian. I would also add some form of soap. People think it was ingenious that soap that is sold in leaves (Soap Leaves or Lifeventure soap leaves), but we all can do at home with a mandoline or a hand plane (use something to grab the soap, not the fingertips). Use something like wax paper to separate each soap leaf and that's it. You can use the same wax paper to create a place for the soap leaves to be and put just a few in your wallet. A lot of those things tha Ian showed us can be put in a wallet, so we can all carry these.

You need some kind of disinfectant cleaner. In a pinch, I use hand sanitizer to clean a seat, even if I have a seat cover.

Dude Wipes are great for a kit like this, especially the individually wrapped ones. Also (if you or someone you are caring for is eligible) a Radar key to access disabled toilets is a must.

As a woman, I would of course add to that some emergency sanitary protection. I usually have a couple of slim sanitary towels and a small ziplock bag to put a used one in hygienically. Great video! New subscriber here. :)

I keep things a bit simpler, a couple packets of those tissues in my pocket cover a multitude of sins, I do have a few of those wee (pun intended 😉) towel things too. Been a godsend over the years. Maybe a tad unethical and I've never used it but I do have a radar key in my jacket pocket for emergencies. I've forwarded this vid to my missus who has a few more issues with public toilets/bushes etc. and the radar key is more likely to be used by her than me.

Interesting video. Thanks Ian. I always carry hand sanitiser hanging from my slingbag or rucksack. I also carry the soap sheets that are now available in case I need soap. Having lived in China for some years where there a lot of squat toilets, I practiced squatting for months. I can now squat over a squat or a western toilet with no problems avoiding any need to use a toilet seat cover. One extra item I carry now is a disposable pee bag. More & more int he UK there are no toilets open at night and it is usally an offence to urinate on the street and not very nice for others afterwards. A few months ago I was waiting for an overnight bus in Sheffield bus station at 1am in the morning, all toilets are locked at 11pm. I used my pee bag in a dark corner. The pee bags make the pee in side turn solid so it can be disposed of in a bin.

Great video! I also carry a small travel toiletry bottle filled with hand soap. Have you tried any of those gadgets so you can open doors without touching them directly with your hands?

Nasty subject ;-) - very well covered, with one exception: NO toilet paper in your public bathroom pouch, REALLY? WC paper is the most likely missing item in any public toilet - being confronted with such situations multiple times. That's why I do have in my kit a part of a roll, about 30 pieces, in a separate small plastic bag to prevent it from getting wet before use. YMMV of course and if you are happy with the bidet option (ever tried it with you slacks down your ankles and NOT make a mess?!) than WC paper may be not needed for the original purpose.

@@deeps2761 yes that’s exactly correct. I suppose people prefer the texture of toilet roll or getting more uses out of the paper. The tissue has more than one purpose which I like: toilet roll and more absorbing than toilet paper when used after the bidet.

Like yourself, I saw them on Joe Gadget's channel and bought one. I've not actually used it yet and don't 'EDC it', I got it for when I do extended walks (more than a couple of days) for just in case. Can't say I'm keen on the idea but the weight is minimal and its an option. Each to their own and all that but for me some people overthink the whole toilet stuff, I don't think anyone likes the dodgy public toilet/crapping behind a bush stuff but I just get on with it and back to what I was doing. As an aside, when I am wild camping/hill walking I tend to bung myself up with immodium to cut down on having to 'empty myself' as often.
