I am a beginner to woodwork, the main test I have with this bundle kzbin.infoUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt is that I think that its hard to settle on a choice of the plan and outline to use as there are a large portion of them there. Nonetheless, I like the simple stride to step directions laid out there.

A long time ago I had to cut down a number of trees that were over a hundred years old. It was a solemn experience. I imagined what those trees must have witnessed over time. Honor their life by purposing that lumber with your many projects.

I know exactly what you mean. I worked at a home a couple years ago, where an old water oak was being cut down to make room for an add on. The trunk was as big around as the bed of a truck. The crown was every bit of ninety feet high. It had been overlooking that hill for probably 200 years. I almost cried when I felt the thump of it hitting the ground.

Thanks for the follow up on your oak harvest that you’ve shown us previous steps it’s taken to go from felling the trees to drying to making lumber to bringing it home and storing it. I’m sure that whatever you create with this beautiful lumber will be fun for us to watch and learn from. Thanks for sharing and I’ll be waiting for the next step in the journey of this wood. A shaker kitchen will be one of the better choices you could make using this wood and making your wife happy will make all the work worthwhile. Inviting us into your home to show us your plans will make for another great video series.

With the dearth of high quality lumber available today it would be a real privilege to work with this lumber. I am sure that, baring accidents, the furniture or cabinetry crafted from this wood will be serving into the next century. Sorting the wood for accessibility is important. Lord of the Rings author J.R.R. Tolkien once described character Barliman Butterbur as having “a mind like a limber pile, thing that is wanted is always on the bottom.”

What most in our industry doesn't understand is that all our timber comes from a long tradition of hard work and conservation, if the forests are not maintained, thinned and tidied, they become a danger to the communities around them, the same goes to small holdings and rather then just cutting everything up for firewood, having a mill or hiring a portable mill to process the straight timber will give you a commodity with which you can draw upon for your family or your other projects. My father and I helped clear some land for fire protection and bought a small manual bandsaw mill in order to do justice to the cleared trees. We have been using this timber for features in our building projects for the last 10 years. Nothing feels as good as producing a piece of furniture from timber you have dropped, split, stickered, dried, straightened and dressed it is made with love. Thank you once again for showing your community how satisfying it is to work for the things you want and as you say "Keep up the good work".

Great video, been waiting for this follow up. Took 14 white oaks off of my place just a little bit north of you, in rural Marion County, and sold six of them to a similar outfit in Grand Ronde I think (Zena Forest Products), where they turn white oak into hardwood flooring. Going to take down a couple three more next summer and do what you're planning, and turn them into kitchen cabinets and a few other wood features inside my former Grange hall that I'm converting to a home. Your channel has been a great inspiration for me, especially since we're about the same age.

Not sure if your able to read all the comments on your videos, but I really enjoyed this. I had a friend in my church give me a trailer load of black walnut he had milled 25 years ago. I, too, have made cabinets and bookshelves in the bedroom out it. There is something similar to communion with The Creator when I behold the beauty hidden inside a tree. The grains, colors, smells… how fortunate and blessed guys like us are, to see the miracle of wood in all it’s glory

I love White Oak. It is hard, splintery, and can be downright cantankerous. But, if properly sawn and dried, as you have shown here, it can be some of the most beautiful, strong, durable, and moisture resistant wood you could ever want.
