James, I once again applaud your thorough discussion of the financial side of boating. You're pulling back the curtain and helped viewers and shoppers better understand what it takes to 'dive in' to boating. So...I'll give this review another '10'! (Sorry about the wet socks...)

I'm gonna give you a 9/10 for entertainment, 8/10 for product knowledge, 8/10 for quality of production, 6/10 for staying dry (the wet sock let you down) and that gives me a total of 16/45, well maths was never my strong point. Keep making the vids, always fun to watch, ps, if you could fall in the water occasionally for a bit of slapstick humour I might just give you a 10/10. Thanks

I got to give it to you brits, you are just about the most serious boating people in the world. You put up with terrible weather & lots of tidal waters, you get raped financially with ridiculous costs (especially for berthing) and you still do it. Hats off to you!

I remember when a new sea-ray was about $1000/ft. Now 10x. My income, unfortunately, has not kept pace with that multiple over the decades. Of course, the one I had used plywood under the cockpit carpet. Built to last!

We recentley changed a Bavaria 33S HT for a 2018 Sea Ray 320 open with hard top, the best option here in the Balearic Islands, especially as she has A/C in the oockpit! Good to see that the rear facing seat squabs have been shortened, giving more space on the bathing platform. We continually have 10+ adults onboard and the lack of storage space is a pain for glasses, plates etc, so forget the BBQ grill - especially with our teak decking. A weekender IMO only for a young family. Bow seats are great for four people. The sliding front seat back needs a lock to secure it in either position - without it is dangerous. A well built & finished boat. Captain John, 40 years experience in the Med & Caribean

Get rid of the stern drives (outdrives) in favour of outboards, improve the side profile aesthetics, add fold a down 'patio' as per the 40LX (?) and you're 97% of the way there in regards to a bloody ripper of a day (overnighter) boat. Love the fact there's no clears to worry about at the helm.... No matter how good your trimmer is.... they will always leak. BTW. thoroughly enjoy your reviews and your candour... Fan Perth Western Aust.
With outboards you don't get that massive swim deck which is just awesome.

Great review and really appreciate going through the cost of the investment. With that said, $8 a gallon for fuel which is $127 per hour at only 20 knots. Ownership according to this video cost per year in U.S. dollars is $38,000 (fuel, financing, etc) + $23,000 in fixed cost for a total annual cost of $61,000 (not including depreciation). Wow! ."it even has lights in your cup holder so you can see your beer" ... this was at the helm and not a good idea while running unless you want a DUI.

If it had diesel engines, what would be the fuel cost difference? Would it give the same performance? Just trying to work out pros and cons of diesel and petrol in boats.
@Boatscouk2 жыл бұрын
Diesel fuel costs would be about 1/4 less. Performance similar but much noisier- they V8’s are sweet sounding and smelling 😊
@bluemut552 жыл бұрын
As a broker who sells mostly SeaRays in Canada, I can tell you that the buy in cost of diesels over fuel is substantial and the service costs are much more. Unless you plan to put on a lot of hours the diesels are a waste of money. Additionally diesel fuel is much more expensive at this time than gas.
@Boatscouk2 жыл бұрын
@@bluemut55 100% agree - thank you Bluemut55
@SebastianTJ2 жыл бұрын
60 l / h is probably for one engine, if you do 50 hours a year, take gasoline, if more than 100 hours, buy diesels, I have diesel and it's ok. At 7 knots I have a fuel consumption of 10 liters / h, at 23 knots 70 liters / h. For two engines.

Mojo? This name sounds familiar. Aren’t these the same owners of that V50 you’ve been trying to sell for quite some time now? Quality 9/10?! Come on, James. It’s a product made by the Brunswick Corp. @jimmy19492 жыл бұрын
@@Boatscouk how much would you estimate the cost to be to change for a new boat after one year?
@Boatscouk2 жыл бұрын
@@jimmy1949 . Obviously the difficult bit is the price of the new sea Ray in a years time. If it’s 20% more that would circa £80k more. If the sea Ray does drop £25k then the cost to upgrade would be circa £105k ( plus dealer margins and costs)
@jimmy19492 жыл бұрын
@@Boatscouk many thanks for you reply £80k to £100k plus say 8% dealer cost look about right for first year depreciation (compared to my boat a squadron55). Nice, but not worth the money. Running costs alone go against it and then there's the cabin, what sort of galley is that. Clearly made for people who don't want or can't cook. I mean, you've got out of bed and fancy a slice of toast - get up darling so I can fold the table to put the plates out? It's just not practical enough and don't get me started me on that bathing platform, half of your berthing fees are right there and who cares if the back end drops down. Sure, a novelty to begin with but after that it serves no practical purpose . it's more about flash than functionality. Finally, it's typical of all American boats (and I know because I own one), they have maximised the internal space and left you nowhere to walk around the deck. If money is no object then indulge yourself but to me it's not a smart purchase
