My uncle owns this, it is somewhat of a "legend" in my family. It resides in a lock coffin case in his closet, it has only been revealed to me once. He said he will let me play it when im 30.

You have no idea how long i have wanted one of these. I managed to get hold of a 1996 bolt on ESP "custom" explorer about 11 years ago I then won a meet and greet when Metallica played Reading in 2008. I got Het to sign it and allot of what you show has happend to mine (neck bolts etc), i wish i had this as well but alas 2 kids to feed ....lol
@EssexRecordingStudios6 жыл бұрын
That is an awesome story dude! You brought your custom explorer to the festival with you??! Did you carry it everywhere? Yeah I think the wear you see on the neck bolts is a good thing...it shows you it's real. I couldn't believe how many fakes there are out there!

Essex Recording Studios I took the control cavity plate with me. No other way as I was a tent for 3 days before lol I had a grassroots version before hand and then got the esp just before I won the meet and greet. The grassroots was my first proper guitar had it a good 10/15 years but the esp sounded and played so much better I sold it on. A guy on the esp forum bought it and did the elk skull paint job!

These ESP E.X.P custom are amazing guitars! I've bought mine like 2 years ago after finding a guy who stored it in his mother's house for about 15 years. He didn't touch it for that long time, and when I met him and took the guitar from the case it was almost as brand new! Frets had some layers of rust but with a little polishing job have been removed and they are 100 % new. Got it for a low price and I still can't believe it's mine haha. I'm glad that this guy was a Metallica fanboy when he was young and left this hobby behind him :]

One of the strange things about the JH-1 is that not all 200 got the ESP circle logo on the back. I have number 27, which I bought new in 98, and it doesn't have the logo. There are several examples on the ESP forum without the logo on the back.

I have # 72 and it doesn’t have the logo either. Bought mine new in 97 I believe.

Awesome Mr. keith.....one of my favorite guitars, any chance for a demo? It would be SUPER AWESOME to see this guitar in action, theres barely any videos on em at all. Never knew the flame was so intricate too.

The ESP JH-1's are cool but IMO the JH-3's are the best ESP Hetfield Signature and the most rare. JH-1 and JH-2 and 200. Only 100 of the JH-3's plus I just love the look of the JH-3's. The JH-1 and JH-2 are bolt-on necks also while the JH-3 is set neck. Either way that is one cool guitar, JH-1. Hope you are not asking a fortune for it. :)

This one had the strap button relocated actually. Very interesting about yours not having the logo on the back. What about the "R" copyright letter after "ESP" on the headstock? Interested in selling yours?

@@EssexRecordingStudios Great. Thanks. So I got one of these when they were first selling and I have hadn't ever questioned it's authenticity til now. 1. I never got that metal plaque that apparently was supposed to come with it. I did get a certificate of authenticity but is that a major red flag? 2. Mine has mostly sat in closet since I've owned it and the screws on back neck plate haven't oxidized like you pointed out. Does that mean that screws are made from a different material or is that just from low use? 3. I didn't notice anything special about the black paint, it looks flat to me. Red flag? 4. It doesn't have "ESP" written on the back of the headstock. I've tried to look at other real ones online and saw one potentially real one that also was just black but is that also a red flag? 5. The bottom strap button is on the point of the V not by the input jack. I saw avid on YT here of another guy with a supposed real one and he also had the strap button there but is this a red flag? 6. Is a big deal that I didn't get a form fitting case like you show? Mine is rectangular shaped and doesn't say "ESP" on it. 7. Two of the four original screws that hold the EMG 60 pickup were never quite the right length. The bottom ones fell out very easily because they were the same size as the top screws but the body angles away from the neck. I always thought it was just a careless or stupid move in the manufacturing but now has me a little worried. Is this a red flag? Also, I haven't looked at the electronics cavity yet but I'm not exactly sure what to look for. Thank you very much for taking the time.

@@NiacinWaterTaffy give me an email and send pics to info@essexrecordingstudios.com I know Ed Roman was building replicas of this guitar when they came out and for a few years after. I have seen them come with both the ESP V case and the ESP rectangle case. All should have come with the signed plaque and certificate. Did you buy it direct from a dealer or was it slightly used? Dealer or employee at shop could have kept the plaque. I have seen just the plaque on eBay once a few years ago

Esp with a bolt on?
@EssexRecordingStudios6 жыл бұрын
I know! This was very common of Custom Shop guitars during the 90's. I have two bolt-on Custom Shop Eclipses. Also, James had snapped necks on some of his fav neck-thru guitars so he may have wanted something that could be easily fixed with a replacement neck. -Keith

@regretamin36896 жыл бұрын
The thing with Chinese knock offs are some are very well faked and sometimes only an expert in those brands can tell. But usually theres always a sign its fake. Bevels aren't correct, headstock shapes can be off. Ive seen ones where its a completely different shaped body. Wood denisty is good to know aswell. Im not 100% sure if every fake has a real serial number or not, never looked that far into it
@EssexRecordingStudios6 жыл бұрын
Yeah you're right. My experience viewing fakes is that if the guitars had printed or stamped serials on the headstock, those usually get copied. Neck plate serials etched into the metal I don't think I've seen copied. The JH1 replicas I have seen all have blank square neck plates
