Establishing a new outpost can be hard and without the right equipment it can mean certain death so here's a some food for thought when it comes to setting one up.

Space Engineer is like a mixture between Minecraft and Kerbal Space Program.
The main purpose of the game seems to be building a space fleet and fight/ally with the other factions. You build your ships piece by piece and the only know limit for the size of your ship is what you computer can handle.

I have already been working on a more modular design like this. The pods will be mass production ready and have connection points and airtight pod designation. Currently each pod is capable of attaching to other pods on a very strict corridor system. You start by dropping the modules via a sky Port which is positioned at .25 gravity which has all the O2 farms, solar panels, and batteries needed to maintain it's hieght. This Port has a manufacturing point with drop capabilities. You then print out the drop point marker fill it with the designated materials and drop it. Then on the ground where it dropped you build the landing pad with said supplies. These drop point markers come packed with everything you need for a laser antenna, 25 (large grid) light armor blocks, one battery, 2 rotors, 6 solar panels, and 1 button panel. Once built you tell the port to drop whatever you need after that. After giving it commands it should finish and drop anything you could imagine. The first thing to drop after setting up the landing pad is a workhorse which can pick up and place any pods you have on the landing pad.

Great idea. Great video too. I'm a bit late to the party, but here's my two cents: a hydrogen tank, if you can fit one, some programmable blocks, and a medical station for respawn, or at least the parts for one.

few small additions or edits I think would work for this is A. get little bit of security since they will be on planets. Even if its just anti personal gun near front door. B. work the giant assembler from right side of container to left side all the way in the back that way it wont be as much in the way if that is possible. C.smaller communication network on the container even on the inside. For when if people already on the surface and don't see the container drop and need help finding it. D. maybe add a system to where you can connect two pods together if you can get that working. More of secondary type stuff that can be dropped on top or on side to help the men on the ground.

I would add airtight hanger doors behind the ramp so that you can seal it up on planets without oxygen. Also external connectors so that you can dock ships to then when hauling in supplies or joining up modules. Here's another idea. Figure out a way to build a compact deployable security fence so you can protect against the unfriendly people and creatures on the planet. Something that folds in very compact and can just be dropped in place

Nice setup, but you didn't cover how you're getting the pods on the planet? Parachutes? A dedicated vehicle to drop them off? I'd like to see this taken to the next step!

Still testing deployment methods, parachute testing has been deemed unreliable so far. A drop ship seems to be the way forward I also need to work out away to print the pods.

One thing to put in a pod is a cryobay or a medical station. The medical station will be a beast because the hitbox is so massive, but a mod or two can fix that.

For things like that to be really useful SpaceEngineers really needs a way to tolerate humongous amounts of blocks without taxing the system to much. That would be quite handy.

Perhaps devise a Halo Wars-esque building system where you can deploy different buildings from orbit which then combine/connect on the ground to produce a functioning base?

Hey lsg i have an idea that has been in my head for a bit. What about a drone that infiltrates the enemy ship and does a sabotage mission blowing up the reactor room to disable the ship and make it easy to destroy the ship

A great idea a long time ago I was working on a projectile with a drone inside designed to penetrate the hull and deploy the drone. The big issue is predicting where corridors so you can get it in. A modded version would be easy to make small a vanilla not so much.

I didn't use pre-made structures because they are bulky and they are much harder to adapt/anchor into the planet, you're still going to have to make it anyway...right?

Well hopefully now with the physics overhaul, building small ships and structures either back at your base or during transport should be a more feasible option, and you would only need a few landing gears to attach the structure to the ground, then you can work on setting up merge blocks to properly attach the structure to the ground,

Ref+ass is under a megawatt, the 3 small batts can power that for over 3 hours (1.08MWh each I believe)

Build a better miner then, this is a game about engineering - with engineering in its title-after all

Three tips for you to try: 1: rig up an ejector to your mining ship to dump non-target materials (i.e. rock)- dumping unwanted material will allow you to mine your needed materials for longer before the ship payload reaches its limit. 2: Don't try to build a full setup on a planet- build a minimal ship to get you to space, then gather all your ores from asteroids or the Moon, where the lower gravity means you can carry more mass for a given amount of downward thrust. 3: If all else fails, MORE THRUST! If your starting miner ship design is already as small and lightweight as you can tolerate but it still fails to maintain altitude at your intended maximum payload, then you must increase the thrust acting in opposition to gravity, making sure you have enough battery and/or reactor power to allow everything to reach full power- a thruster that doesn't get all the energy it needs becomes derated, and being too underpowered results in worthless dead weight compared to a smaller number of fully-powered thrusters.
