The buttons would look so great in a glass jar in your craft room. I have a jar of my Granny’s buttons and have started collecting my own. I’m literally enthralled with your buy. Who’s business is it to tell you that you have too much stuff? Your money, your time, your house. Enjoy you goodies. I love estate sales and if I never use all the “stuff’ I enjoy the find! And if it brings you joy, buy, enjoy, share, and use. 💐❤️🪡🧵🧶

Love this. ❤ the hankies! I went to an estate sale and they were offering $5 per bag (kitchen garbage bag size) and we could fill with whatever we wanted. This house had SO MANY books, vintage recipes, crocheted afghans, linens and a ton of crafty, sewing and Christmas. items. They are jealous or they just don't get it and are deprived of the joy from making something with your own hands and saving treasures like this from going to waste.

$5 a bag?!? I'd be in BIG t r o u b l e! I hate the thought of things going to waste too. I love giving old, unloved things a new life!

I wash buttons in a white enamel basin with shampoo. Never in a sink with a drain they can accidently go down. I also always use a strainer to lift them up and down out of a rinse water. They I lay them on towel on a cookie sheet to dry. I do pull out cloth buttons and almost always toss those unless I can tell they were handwoven or made by needle lace. Those can also be washed. So can the metal hooks and eyes but be careful with drying. I would wash the hankies on delicate in the washer. If really old the fabrics could have some dry rot but you can tell if you pull on it a bit and it pulls apart. Generally fabrics and notions if from the last 20-30 years they come with insecticide and fire repellent on them and if not washed are probably pretty moth and bug proof. I used to work in a fabric store back when we always recommended people prewash their fabrics and notions. I still always do. You got good deals. Notions in estate and yard sales lately are getting good prices along with used sewing machines. Why? Covid19 isolation new sewists. I'd be interested if and when you list the needles. I miss having good needles. Needles in recent years are really not good. Great haul and a good time watching so thanks!
@MelanieSullivan3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the advice, Robin! I didn't wash the fabric covered because I didn't want water to get trapped inside the button. I did have a handkerchief that almost shredded in the washer, dry rot for sure.
@BobRobinathome3 жыл бұрын
@@MelanieSullivan I really don't like cloth covered buttons, germs being my issue, and like you say, water inside the button form could rust or worse. I have hand washed some fragile vintage fabrics but dyes can be unstable. Salt or vinegar in the rinse water helps set the color. I can't wait to get back to my thrift stores and maybe I'll find some estate sales too. Are you listing needles yet?

Wonderful haul! You can wash the buttons in warm, sudsy water and they come out looking like new. Use a mild dish soap for them. Any buttons with metal shanks I would was separately because some of them can tarnish the others - especially fabric covered buttons. I LOVE old buttons and the hankies and vintage gift wrap are the icing on the cake!

I pulled out all the wood, fabric, and metal buttons and washed the plastic and glass in regular Dawn dish soap. They look great! Thanks!

Wow.....I love to look through sewing items & have purchased some things from our local church bazaars. Plus, I have buttons from my mother and grandmother. The beads are great for Christmas crafts--ornaments. The hankies are the BEST! Never saw so many needles in my life! (Don’t listen to the negativity!)

This was fun! How brave of you to do this on camera after the “judgie” comments you’ve received in the past. 😱 It always amazes me that some people believe everyone is entitled to their opinion, solicited or not! 😄 How I wish I’d saved my Mom’s button box. Anyway, button boxes are just great for kids. Endless entertainment. Glad you didn’t find any creatures.🐜🕷🪳 Keep up the videos. I love your style!❤️

You’re right. Only we, your fans, would appreciate such a haul. You know what would be super duper fun? Make some sewing kits and sell those on Etsy. On my Pinterest board I have a collection of sewing notions and various sewing kits that may inspire you. I think it’s under the Yarn, Thread and Needles. I am so glad there is another me out there so I can show people I am not the only one who gets excited over buttons, sewing stuff, and handkerchiefs. All those handkerchiefs would make such a cool summer dress.

New to your channel and really enjoyed your "haul"! My SIL and I live on the east side of FtW and love estate sales. Usually hang around the Arlington area but may have to venture out further. Great haul!!

There's a sale on Shadycreek Ct. in Arlington this weekend that looks good. I didn't see any sewing stuff (in the photos), but some nice linens, quilts, and crocheted pieces. As much as I want to go, I think I'm going to have to resist so that there's still room for me in my sewing and craft rooms. I'm at capacity! 😂
