I love how this beautiful song (and the complete set by Montsalvatge) capture teh social landscape of the Spanish Caribbean at that time. It's like a rich social and cultural commentary set to music.

Brilliant and touching performance as always. Brought tears to my eyes. Maybe it's the arrangement - I've never heard an arrangement as beautiful as this! Esther is truly fantastic!

Beautiful vocals, as usual from Esther.

Esther did a mistake in the original recording of this beautiful lullaby in her lovely album in 1969. Here she does it right with that half tone in "tan chiquitito". Also, the arrangement fits the lyrics perfectly.

I heard something somewhere (?) about this being a slave song where a mother sings a lullabye to her baby with the extremely dark suggestion to 'be nice to the white man and you'll be okay'. Any Spanish speakers who can enlighten? Esther was shockingly brilliant, as always.

She is one of the few getting mature and grow in beauty! She's not really inventive...perhaps her secret?
