I think a lot of the reason people miss high school and college isn't because of the experience itself, it's because of the perceived future. When you're essentially trapped you still have the illusion that you're ready to spring into what you want to do, your whole school life is just ruminating about the bright future ahead. Once you're out and are no longer being supported by the system, the crushing reality comes down on you. Some excel and push through it with discipline and a hard mindset, others fall under the weight and just crawl by for decades until they retire. And understanding how a system of people once helped you succeed in school can help you succeed in life. It's harder to discover in adulthood out of school, but finding like-minded people and working together can help you succeed in life.
