I found Esthero on late night mtv in a goodie mob video in 1999. I became obbsessed with finding out who she was. finally bought her cd and used to listen to it in my highschool parking lot and smoke joints while deciding wether or not to go to class or ditch out.....she always convinced me too ditch.

I was (and still am) a big fan of djing and scratch mid 90’s / early 2000’s. And a big fan of Esthero, Portishead, and later Incubus. I loved how you all incorporated scratch into your songs!

Discovered Esthero by pure chance back in 2005 whilst playing a PC game. She had the main theme song for A James Bond game song was called Nearly Civilized although I had struggled finding who it was credited to since it wasn't written anywhere!? I used spotify and i remember thinking how come I hadnt heard of her before and why she is barely known of in UK(even now 15 yrs ltr still)

I am always floored by Esthero - I have had Breath From Another for 9 years - but this live version just knocked me over - I might be wrong, but I really don't feel that there is anyone that is more talented than this woman. God she just drops me - I am a musician too, and people say I am talented, but this woman just makes me want to never stop listening to her

i love both Esthero and Bjork so i love that you said that, because i was just thinking about how it had a little Bjork in it. BTW, Esthero loves Bjork too! Esthero has some live performances of doing her Bjork moments :)

I remember hearing Esthero and this song for the first time on MTV circa 1998 when I was on foreign assignment in South America from Europe. I immediately got the CD the first chance I had at a record store back in Europe. It's been a main part of my late-90s -Trip Hop collection and appreciation. This live on TV version is the best I've heard of that song. I wished there was a HQ version of this specific live performance to download.

Doc Mckinney is the producer who plays the guitar in this video. BTW, the guy is a genius producer. Anything he has touched is gold check out Res and Graph Nobel. No one else has been able to do Esthero's voice justice (except maybe Esthero producing songs herself!) I am guessing he did the arrangement for the music in this video as well. After her first album, over 10 years ago, they had a falling out and went their separate ways much to the disdain of Esthero/Doc fans.

To this day, Esthero refuses to talk about the motivations for this songs lyrics. Many fans speculate that it is about the senseless murder of Adrienne Jones by Diane Zamora and David Graham. The case was a big story around the time the song was written.

dismally...great talent no doubt that's why she has been able to find work behind the scenes as a featured artist or writer but she is difficult to market. Her first single being a soulful, jazzy, rock murder song really did not help matters. How do you market that?
