Hi mate, bluebeam revu, planswift, buildxact are all based on pdf 2d tracing for take off.. if someone figured out to take off ALL items in BIM accurately.. what do you think? I know architects and engineers BIM model are not exactly suitable for estimating take off.. but is it time to move from old 2d tech to full 3D BIM for estimating?

Hey! I recently used BIM to do a take-off of cable tray on a plant, and I thought it was incredibly useful. You definitely need to do some sanity checking. For example, the BIM model had 90 different types of bends for cable tray. In practice, you would rationalize these and use less different types. It really depends the purpose of the QTO
