Spot on. I first typed as 50:50 ISTJ & ESTJ at 30 years old and chose to run with ESTJ as that was the dominant flavour and my life's context at the time while also going through a transition...and it was confusing as to how my personality test results was split evenly between ESTJ & ISTJ but this video explains it so well. Also I've seen myself evolve through these different flavours Normalising - Scientist (early 20s) Creative - Teacher (late 20s) Dominant - Business Owner/Entrepreneur (mid-30s) Harmonising - Pastoral care/counselling (done some work and can def see myself doing this later in life)....regarding boundaries - my experience is as I age I get better at not only setting but also enforcing my boundaries This is insightful for choosing careers at various life stages. Like financial literacy, emotional intelligence, this subject needs to be part of education systems worldwide. Thanks for sharing.

Interesting. I am often described as a typical ESTJ. But I probably went through three phases. At school I was more the creative subtype. After that, as an officer in the German army, I was definitely more of the dominant type. I now work as an agile coach and often tend towards the harmonizing sybtype

Really enjoyed this breakdown and loving the new perspectives offered by the subtype ideas! Thanks to Joel/Antonia and Dr Nardi for yet another chapter of value-packed Personality Hacker content :) I have repeatedly tested as an ESTJ (and resonate with the descriptions on a cognitive function level) but I have never really resonated with the stereotype of being this relentlessly driven, "success at the expense of those around me" kind of ESTJ. From the descriptions put forward in this video, it appears that this stereotype is a lot more congruent with the definitions of the dominant ESTJ. I am, however, in awe at how accurately the definitions of the normalising ESTJ represents me; dutiful, conscientious, detail-oriented, objective, strict, aim to set a good example and strive to be a good citizen. All of this without the bravado, forcefulness or ignorance often accredited to ESTJs. I am acutely aware of my impact on other people (sadly not as much as I would like to be in the current moment, hence E over I), but the post-analysis of my actions after even the most trivial of interactions can be excruciating. A large part of my self-worth and happiness is directly linked to my perceived impact on people close to me, family, friends or colleagues. I want to do "what is right", not on an emotional level, on an objective, systems-thinking, practical and practicable level. But the "inner critic" that gives me my performance reviews comes from a place of deep Fi. Fi has therefore always been a huge part of my experience, which interestingly has led me to sometimes consider whether I was an ISTJ, another trait apparently relevant to the normalising ESTJ! Within the boundaries of the above summary, the thought of taking a management position is actually off-putting, let alone desirable! I would much rather become an expert, indispensable soldier, able to repeatedly deliver and excel against my fixed set of expectations and duties, than become an incapable general poised to repeatedly disappoint by failing to deliver on the subjective needs of other people with my poorly attuned empathy. It is so fascinating that even with the same stack of cognitive functions, these subtle differences in subtype can manifest in fundamentally different ideologies. Personality science is truly a gift that keeps on giving!

Tl;dr A creative ESTJ admits inability to appreciate a specific type of art Thanking Antonia and Joel for their podcast - I love this subtypes series! I’m trying to type myself by basing the analysis on the cognitive functions. The first time I took the assessment I have been identified as an INFJ, the other ten always as an INTJ (but I really liked this result, so I may had given biased answers… oops!) but this types never fitted me as they should. I’ve been wondering if I am an ENTJ because I think Fi is my 3yo and Te my natural state of mind. But your description of the creative ESTJ really resonated with me. I am an illustrator and graphic designer, passionate about science (amateur level) and other stuff (dogs, gardening, sci-fi, crochet, etc.). After high school I attended the Academy of Fine Arts. I think I was one of the most organized students but probably not the most talented: purely aesthetic creations don’t give me the spontaneous emotions my classmates had. Enigmatic artworks (the ones you must interpret because that’s a part of the artwork) frustrates me so intensely that I stopped going to contemporary art expositions because it simply ruins my day. My point is: art is a form of communication, when the communicated meaning isn’t obvious you’re just wasting everybody’s time. This opinion fascinated my friends but was never popular among them. I now realize that I haven’t the brain wiring to appreciate contemporary art. I understand your pianist friend when he doesn’t want to be called an artist but simply a performer. I think that we consider that artworks exists only for the sake of it, while a performance always serves another purpose. E.g. I draw not because I aim to give aesthetic pleasure but because my drawings are a valid instrument to communicate a message. Looking forward to listening the new episodes of the series. Thank you for your amazing podcast

I'm not sure but you sound like an intuitive type to me, so probably not an ESTJ. I'd recommend looking at the "blindspot" of each type which is the cognitive function they are worst at and care about using the least.

Thank you@@sarahberkner for your advise! In the past months I actually studied my "blindspot" and I came to the conclusion I am an INTJ. It's really funny you wrote I sound "intuitive", I'm absolutely unable to recognize what sounds intuitive about the comment 😅 Thanks again for your feedback

Buiness law enforcement finance or starting a business intrests me. Not always most extraverted of all types. I guess extraverted thinking is more focused on getting things done numbers and data. Took supply chain management as a major in business and going to go into procurement. These personality tests help to see what direction to go in.

ESTJ but barely but for a couple of would have been a INTJ. Careers were Navy Diver, Police Officer, Firefighter/EMT
