I love and watch and follow their basketball leagues, both LKL and NKL. I have over 100 friends who are basketball players in Lithuania. I love Vilnius….it’s my favorite city in Lithuania but Kaunas, Klaipeda and Siauliai are very nice towns as well. People are very friendly and welcoming. I love the nature, love that it’s so green in the summer. Love taking the train and seeing the countryside. I love Lithuania….I’m a wannabe Lithuanian. 🫶🏼💛💚❤️

A few weeks ago, I returned to Lithuania from Estonia, and I must say, I had an amazing time there. During that week, I had the opportunity to visit all the Baltic countries and Finland. Despite what people say about Lithuania and Estonia having nothing in common, I couldn't shake the feeling of being at home there. Interestingly, I didn't experience the same sense of belonging in any other nation - only in the Baltics (and I travel a lot) I am planning to return for a longer period during winter because there's something truly special about Estonia. I fell in love with the Estonian language, although it was challenging to hear it in Tallinn due to the prevalence of Russian speakers. I've been advised to explore other parts of Estonia to experience the genuine Estonian culture and language, and I'm eager to do so. In fact, I've decided to pick up Estonian to help preserve this beautiful language. It just so happens that I'm working on mastering German ATM, but in the upcoming year estonian is on my bucket list. Food wasn't overly exciting, I tried the wild meets and other dishes. I find Lithuanian food slighly more creative. When it comes to the economy, it's evident that Estonia has a more advanced digital infrastructure compared to Lithuania. However, Lithuania's economy is more mixed, showcasing a variety of sectors and industries. While sports aren't my forte, I know that basketball is a beloved sport in Lithuania, and Estonia has a strong reputation in hockey. Estonia, with its bustling tourism industry, is undeniably more popular among tourists. In contrast, I appreciate the hidden gem quality of Lithuania. Its charm lies in being less visited, allowing for a more authentic experience. Also I enjoy peace and quiet. Language-wise, I have a soft spot for the sound of Lithuanian, even though I acknowledge that it can be perceived as harsher. Interestingly, if both Estonian and Lithuanian were foreign to me, I might find Estonian more enjoyable to listen to due to its melodic qualities. In conclusion, Lithuania holds a special place in my heart as my home country, and I look forward to developing a deep connection with Estonia as well through language and further exploration. Comparing the two is a challenge because both countries offer unique and wonderful experiences. My hope is that both nations will continue to preserve their rich cultures and flourish in the face of an uncertain future. May we remain steadfast allies, akin to brothers, as we navigate the path ahead. Together, we can strive for a better and brighter future for our nations and the region as a whole. Love you Estonians with all my heart ❤

I don't know, I'm Lithuanian living in Finland and I feel like at home, even more so I have a Finnish girlfiend now. Our languages are different, but we share ancient common words for tools, medieval vehicles and buildings, because our Finnic and Baltic nations were living together for centuries prior to our modern world. For me Finland and Estonia are our brothers and sisters in blood and the feeling of reconnection with them after centuries is unmatched! I suggest reading more on this topic, I'd recommend "Vaidas K" Quora page
@marijusdovydaitis6920 Жыл бұрын
@Vhisper I completely resonate with this statement. Having lived abroad for many years, I've found an instant connection with every Finnish, Estonian, or Latvian person I've met. I recall a Finnish girl knowing where I was from just by looking ag my eyes. To this day, some of my dearest friends are Finnish individuals who migrated to Lithuania, seamlessly blending in with our culture and speaking fluent Lithuanian. I cherish the memories of encountering a Finnish lady in Bavaria, who generously shared wine and Eastern eggs. She spoke fondly of her daughter's visits to the Baltic countries, expressing genuine enjoyment. The bond is further deepened by our shared dark sense of humor, which seems to be a common thread among Finns and myself. I have had more meaningful interactions with Finns compared to others, enabling me to delve into their rich culture and history. Through these encounters, I've picked up several Finnish words and phrases While my experience in Helsinki might not have been overly exciting, I attribute it to possible exhaustion. Reflecting on my next visit, I am inclined to explore further north, perhaps to Lappland, immersing myself in the enchanting sounds of the Sami language and even embarking on a surreal journey, riding with reindeer in the vast Nordic skies or meeting with the Santa.

As Latvian (''VS'' home country) I disagree about points you gave to Lithuania and Estonia! :D Both countries are unique, even though they are similar, but still very different. I will disagree about tourism - Estonia is unique in that they have the Saaremaa Islands, but Lithuania really has the Curonian Spit. Lithuania has more cities, but Estonia has more forests and lakes - so giving someone more or less points simply without concrete facts is very incomprehensible.
@ZhylvisLT Жыл бұрын
Bro, do some research before writing your wrong beliefs. There are about 6000 lakes in Lithuania while Estonia has about 1500 lakes. When it comes to forest, Lithuania has 2.2M ha of forest while Estonia has 2.3M ha of forest, so here is almost equal.

As a german, I don't think there might a discusion. Estonia and (Latvia as well) are smaller nations by all the aspects. Look at the population, cities, history. Latvia and Estonia doesn't have history comparing to Lithuania. Lithuania was the largest european country in 14th. century. Latvia and Estonia started their actual existence at 1918. Talking about sports, if Estonia got 4 points, Lithuania must have 7-8, their basketball culture is the best in the whole world. Yeah, Latvia make the top 5 in FIBA world cup this year, while Lithuania was 6th. It was more of miracle. Lithuania produce a lot high quality players in Euroleague, they have a top Euroleague team Zalgiris, and a historical derby between Rytas and Zalgiris.
@b6983832 Жыл бұрын
When did Germany start its existence? For most part of its history, it was an area comprised of more or less independent small principalities. Kingdom of Prussia can´t be called Germany. Unified Germany exists only from 1866. Still, it would be impossible to say that Germany did not exist, even though there was no country called Germany before the unification. The same is true with Estonia or Latvia. Even though the republics were claimed in 1918, it is not completely true to state that Estonia or Latvia didn´t exist before. National state as a concept exists only from the 19th century, and applying this to states and empires from the earlier times are not historically correct. Lithuanian state was also not a state of Lithuanians, but a grand duchy for boyars accepting the Lithuanian charter.

The opinion of an Estonian who has been to Lithuania (Vilnius) once - you undervalued their food by a point, they do more with the same. Economy I think is fair to say is the same, I would put Estonia 0,5 points ahead on some technicalities. Tourism value, I would put Lithuania a 1,5 points above Estonia (Poland would be an entire 3 points above, and I would put Estonia a point above Finland), Infrastructure is dead even in the traditional sense, maybe Estonia is a bit better because of E-services being better for now, but the difference is small, maybe 0,5 points for Estonia, the transportation side felt a little overblown, we got way better sea-freight connections actually. Quality of life I would give half a point to Estonia over Lithuania. Sports I would completely ignore, because we can't compete with Lithuani in basketball :D, we just measure medals in Olympics and that doesn't really matter ( a good Olympics for us is 1 medal btw, - an ok Olympics is one athlete close to a medal, probably the same for Lithuania I imagine, most Olympics are good Olympics). I didn't put the numbers together, but by gut I would say Estonia Lithuania are basically dead-even, with Estonia ahead by a technicality... for now... I would recommend a holiday in Lithuania instead of Estonia- A bit cheaper. Basaltic - we are the same for slightly different reasons and we both feel a bit bad for Latvia, who are actually doing just fine, but we tend to measure technicalities to compare ourselves.

Good video but would be great to go further in depth for the countries are small and specialized in their development so it's not as difficult to get a better understanding on this Especially when regarding sports section, glossing over the achievements of not just individuals but whole sport styles length of history and achievements in that makes me sad, for while yes Basketball is incredible in Lithuania, discounting Estonian snow sports capability and excellence in some of the niches is a damn shame especially given that our countries make up barely 4.5 million people and the outward influence generated here is insane

The quality of life I would say is more similar, then at your rating. Overall I agree, my country wins! :)))) ✊🇱🇹 I would look at weather/climate and usage of different languages also. These aspects would add more points to Lithuania. :) P.S. There are 4 International airports in Lithuania.

Weather/climate? If the summers are cooler in Estonia than they are in Lithuania I'd say Estonia gets more points here! It's very subjective though.
@GulnaraGirl Жыл бұрын
Cooler?! Have you've been to Baltics? :))) "July is the hottest month in Vilnius with an average temperature of 16.5°C" by Holiday-Weather. Yes, the temperature in Tallinn is always even cooler. I guess you one of few people who likes cold and dark outdoors more. The annual amount of sunny / rainy days, the length of daylight are kinda objective. In case of Northern European countries for majority of people it becomes crucial. ☀⛅☁☁☁

Cool video, but as you said in video this is pretty much from your experience and knowledge. From Tourism side you missed “Pärnu” in Estonia, it’s know for summer capital, big festivals & beach. Also southern-estonia where in winter you can skii or do winter activites specially in “Otepää” or “Haanja” which brings us to sports where Estonia has won a lot in skiing. Also Estonia is know for volleyball and rally, Estonia had first WRC rally in Baltics, Estonia has also WRC Champion “Ott Tänak”. Lithuania has basketball, we have WRC. Infrastructure i think both are same or Estonia is even better because Estonia has actually FREE transportation, even in capital Tallinn (but for locals). We do also have 2 airports and ships to Stockholm/Helsinki. In Estonia you can do everything in online (order new document, vote, order food to home from restaurant or from shop, make company for free with 10 minutes, view your healthcare documents, register new car and so on). And Estonia has best roads in Baltics, specially when compared to Lithuania. Currently we don’t have any car tax too, only fuel tax.

@@MrVafflis you’re wrong 😂 have you ever been in Estonia.. Tallinn-Narva & Tallinn-Tartu & Tallinn- Pärnu. And estonia is smaller, no need more highways. Overall road quality is way better than Lithuania, ever Lithuania highways are in sooo bad condition, specially Kaunas-Vilnius
@MrVafflis Жыл бұрын
@@Tempo_est It's just a stereotype that Lithuania and Poland don't have good roads. In reality, the highways are being improved every year. It's just that, due to the countries' geographical locations, they are heavily used. (Kaunas-Vilnius highway - first time I'm hearing that it's bad). When I mentioned 'highway,' I meant a freeway or expressway, and Estonia has none. So, it's not entirely fair to compare when one country is much smaller and easier to develop.

@@MrVafflis listen, i talk about my own experience, i visited Lithuania this summer and have been there previously. Roads are good only in Vilnius, outside are roads really bad, im suprised you don’t accept it because even Latvians joke about their roads. And Poland has actually good roads, better than in Estonia. But Poland is not topic here, i like Lithuania but accept it or not we Estonians make a lot of joke about your roads, they suck 😏

The dish you talked about in Lithuanian food - thats the food in every bar in Estonia. Küüslauguleivad or garlic bread and it's made exactly like you said - from fresh bread, then cooked in oil, then rubbed with garlic and served with garlic flakes and salt with a dip. I don't think you'll find a place that sells beer and doesen't sell fried garlic bread in Estonia.

Watching this video as an Estonian, there are some things I can't completely agree with. But overall, I think Estonia and Lithuania are quite evenly matched. Regarding food: "kepta duona," which we call "küüslauguleivad," is also popular in Estonia, and we also produce honey and cheese here, so whats up with that? In terms of sports, I would say again that we are relatively equal; indeed, they have better results in team sports, but we have nearly twice as many Olympic medals.
@MrVafflis Жыл бұрын
Common, the food is obviously better in Lithuania... But when it comes to sports, I agree. Estonia is way better in the Winter Olympics, and the pupils in Lithuania pretty much stopped giving a shiieeet about basketball

Id rather live in Estonia compared to the other Baltic states tbh, Tallinn & Tartu are very good cities. Estonia's growing economy and digitalization, tax benefits, easy access to VISA's (even though I'm an EU citizen) are also good incentives. Furthermore Estonia's education and air quality are very good, as mentioned in this video.

Asi on sama Eestis, kuid väikelinnades elab suhteliselt vähem rahvast.

There are more aspects to sports - I think that interest towards classical sports have waned in Estonia (certainly more so than in Lithuania), and tilting towards things like rally and esports for example. I think that we put Paul Keres on our bill for some reason as well. Did you knew that ww2 Baltic refugees helped to popularize volleyball in Sweden? Perhaps also noteworthy (no clue about how is with that one in Lithuania), some years back there were campaign in Estonia towards amateur/hobbyist sporters (quite many actually) NOT to over do themselves - as it started causing serious health issues (some more extreme cases had like lifters riping their muscles apart or runners having heart attacks) - many of those hobbyists were attempting olympic level exercise training, out of whom many never did it nor had any intention to ever compete but were doing it just for themselves and for the love of the hobby. This went practically in parallel with agitation campaign to get the other half of the population into moving outoors at all...
