As someone who favors the majority text, I spend most of my Bible reading time TR based bibles. KJV, NKJV, MEV, 1560 Geneva, 1537 Matthews, and Tyndale’s 1526 New Testament. The KJV translators said in their “translators to the readers section (missing from most KJV bibles today) to read a variety of translations to get a sense of what the scriptures are saying. That phrase stuck with me after I read it several years ago. I have just about all the major English translations and try to consult all of them as time allows.

This video was very helpful Wendy. I use the NIV on a regular basis. I find it much easier to read and understand. I do have a King James Bible and a ESV Psalter. I was told it’s good to have different versions of the Bible, but it can be overwhelming and confusing at times for me.

I’m new to Bible reading, studying and journaling. The overwhelming and confusion kicks in when others read from a different version of the Bible. It’s hard to follow them in a group or here on KZbin. I do try my best.

praise the lord sister quick question what about the the missing verses in the esv the Bible says that we live on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God so shouldn’t we as Christian’s have bibles that have all of the King of glory words? Isn’t the Bible above our heads and it takes the spirit of God to reveal it ? Thank you sister
@bibleandthegeek
@bibleandthegeek 7 ай бұрын
@@terrellking4174 The reason some verses are "missing" is because the scholars didn't see enough evidence in the original text that they should be included. The "missing" verses are supposed to more accurately reflect the original text.

I use the NIV. I like it because it's much easier for me to understand, and it reflects how English is spoken today when it says they or brothers and sisters when both genders are meant. Also I'm in the UK, and it has a British English version on my Bible app, and an audio version of it too which is important because I'm blind.

Personally I prefer to read NIV cuz it’s readable for me. However after some prayers God gave me lots of chances to study ESV. Hard to read but I will try my best. 😂

Helpful video. I tend to have the ESV as my primary, but the NIV as my other translation, and then couple them with different translations when trying to figure out meaning, verse mapping, etc.. it’s helpful to have different translations for sure, so we’re pretty lucky as long as they all at least stay biblical. It’s funny when trying to memorize scripture though because there are times when I’ll prefer the way is worded in the NIV or ESV but then it’s like OK which translation did I use for this one again? Versus probably come out, sounding like a mixture between both at times.😂

I bought myself a ESV study bible as I heard it was the best. I love it and it does have alot of features but I find some of the notes fall flat for me. One pastor mentioned it has a Calvinistic viewpoint. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I don't think I'm Calvinistic
@bibleandthegeek
@bibleandthegeek 5 ай бұрын
I'm not a Calvinist either but I had not hear that it leaned in that direction. I love ESV study bibles and I think that a healthy balance of commentaries and bible dictionaries will help you. If you pick up the two-volume Bible Knowledge Commentary and/or a dictionary like the Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary, you'll have a solid start on understanding what's going on. Also, I usually recommend having more than one translation available to compare. So, if you can, pick up an NLT or NIV to help deepen your studies. I hope that helps!

Great question! Based on research I would say that the NLT is more thought for thought than then NIV. I think it's still a solid translation but it's still good to compare translations. Again, this is really good if you have trouble with the more formal translations or looking for something for personal study.

Just came across this fine video. I have a special warm place in my heart reserved for the NIV because it was the first Bible translation in which I really tore apart the scriptures and dived deep. I don't pay much credence in the gender issue - I think it is rather silly. When I read the KJV, I always knew I, a woman, was included when the text just referenced 'man' or 'men.' I knew that as a kid, for Pete's sake. But perhaps nowadays, it is more important to some, so it's okay with me, a non-issue. I have several ESV Bibles, and I do like that translation, but can't say I like it that much better than the NIV. Along the line of the ESV - and more to my liking - is the NASB translation. So far, I think it is the best translation on the scene - but that is just personal preference on my part. I enjoy the NLT a lot - and often use it along with my other translations because it is a joy to read and easy to understand. I am so thankful we have so many translations available to us! I love reading them all - and each offers me a unique, interesting perspective.

@@bibleandthegeek thanks. upon your advice I ordered NIV (Hodder classic) . I have a question is this different from the original NIV or the same and one more thing i watched many videos and read comments where people are criticizing NIV saying this is woke, they is not biblical, they excluded some verses, the writer was gay and some some groups demanded to remove NIV from their stores because of the above reasons. so, i want your opinion on this matter. if all this is true then I'll cancel my order and look for ESV
@bibleandthegeek
@bibleandthegeek 5 ай бұрын
@@Aashy_Z I appreciate your willingness to get the best translation. We use the NIV as the main translation at my church and I think it's fine to start with. My preference is ESV because I'm also in seminary and it's a more literal (word-for-word) translation than the NIV. However, it can be a little harder to understand. I know some people have concerns about the NIV and being "woke" but I have not found that to be the case. You'll be fine with either one. If you want the easiest to understand, get the NIV. If you want a more literal translation, get the ESV.

The translators of the KJV did remove verses themselves that they thought spurious and which were in the Geneva Bible, or in the Great Bible. The KJV is just 17th century scholarship based on 12th century manuscripts. I'll pick 21st century scholarship and 4th century manuscripts, thank you very much.
