remember that this performance occurred in 2000 - there were no Jewish Rappers then and i had no music then, other than a few songs, which I had done with Shlock Rock. This song fit the bill but rapping was something these guys never really seen before. Bear in mind i did rehearse this 2 days before so they knew what was gonna happen. But this is still def classic and what a way to start out!

I was never on the Chabad telethon prior to that evening. Furthermore, I was introduced by Fievish Finkel and the producers in the back told me it was time to go on. If all that miscommunication happened then Im not sure why Kunin waited till more than 3 verses of the song to yank the mic. To this day no one still knows why he did it. But to reiterate, I was never on the show prior to this and therefore never warmly received, Furthermore I had rehearsed with the band 2 days before this.

I think it rocked- I think the Rabbi was cool with it but just wanting to get on to the next as they always have a lot going on on these telethons

We've already had the greatest Jewish rappers the world will ever know: The Beastie Boys. RIP MCA
@thejewishrapper9 жыл бұрын
+redlefthand They were awesome! but they were rappers who were Jewish. They weren't Jewish Rappers - they kept their Judaism tucked away - thats the diff.

Etan G just because they don’t literally rap about Judaism doesn’t mean their Jewishness wasn’t totally reflected in their lyrics, bears and message to the world.

there must have been a major miscommunication because seemingly that was definitely not a nice thing to do especiall from a Chabad Rabbi! Sorry about that Etan! You definitely deserved better!:)

After watching several times i think I get what happened. I think that the Rabbi was told by the producers that the song was over at the wrong time. The Rabbi expected the song to be wrapping up as he walked onto the stage with the next guest. Then, when Etan continued to rap he took the mike from him because he thought that Etan was continuing to perform past the time that he was supposed to and the Rabbi wanted to go ahead with the next segment of the show. I think it was just bad timing and nothing malicious.

I remember watching this when it came on TV. It was cool but why did rabbi stop it mid performance?
@thegentlegibbon17 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if it's his movements that would have gotten his set cut short, since they DID feature breakdancing rabbis last year (2006). The most likely explanations are that either they: a) Thought he was being too aggressive or b) His set was running too long It seems generally on the telethon they like to keep it flowing at a good pace. It is possible that they were telling him to cut wrap it up or cut it from behind the cameras.
@FunnyRabbi17 жыл бұрын
Ok everyone just relax I think I know what happened. Notice before the clip started that cunin began speaking and was about to do something when etan came on stage and inadvertinly cut him off. I think thats what made cunin nervous. remember that etan has been on the chabad telethon in the past and was warmly recieved then. So it was just probably miscommunication.

@Master11545 .. .He does not look kicked off ?? .. well lets see ... In like 2 minutes of performance they took away the mic and then proceeed to give an award to someone else ... if you notice Etan thought that it was for him and then someone behine the camera either informed him that it was not for him or just instructed him to get off stage.

i like what Leah1959 said so Im posting it again...........What was Rabbi Cunin's problem? The lyrics are awesome and inspiring and 100% kosher. I normally despise rap too but there is nothing offensive about this song because the motivation is pure. It's all about elevating the sparks which is what he was doing. There's also a prohibition against embarrassing someone in public. Rap on, Etan G!
@yonahroth650114 жыл бұрын
awesome. I think Etan was trying to be humorous, and he succeeded :) I liked it.

He did it only because that guy had to leave, and he HAD to put that guy on before he left. VERY bad timing. (if it was about your music, you wouldn't have been on in the first place. it was messed up, but it wasn't personal, G.)

I wouldnt buy stuff like this, but I thought Etan G's performance was entertaining, clever and original. This was better than the Chabad rap duo "Ta Shma" !! Rabbi Cunin would probably not have done this if it was Ta Shma up there, since they are fellow Chabadniks.... Etan G is actually much more listenable than Ta Shma, and he gets publicly embarassed. Boosha!
