Fun fact about the templars is that they were generally the most tolerating of the crusaders. Often they would allow Muslims to pray in their in sanctuaries and often escorted muslims and Christians alike. As long as they were not attacked they were generally friendly. The order had strict codes about looting and attacking non combatants. They also often took the most causalities out of the orders because their refusal to retreat. Also look up the last stand of the Templars at seige of Acre. One of the epic last stands in history where hundreds of templars died defending civilians, mostly women and children.

While visiting Spain a year ago , we passed by a cathedral that had this singing by the monks there , we got in and sat down and the feeling was unbelievable, we were hypnotized by those chants. One thing is to listen to them on your phone or computer , another is to listen in a 800 year old medieval cathedral while marveling at the construction and the echoes of their voices. Simply wonderful.

The actual translation of the original texts is more akin to "murder" than just general "kill." It's not that you shouldn't kill, full-stop, it's that you shouldn't kill without reason or just for the sake of death. In the Bible, God himself orders many individuals or groups to be destroyed. He commands his prophets to lead the armies through various campaigns, actions, cleanings, etc. He also doesn't expect you to sit there and let some schmuck wipe out your whole family. You can defend them and others of the faith if needed. You're also interpreting the concepts through a modern perspective. At the time, most people didn't think like you or I do. The Crusades were primarily intended not to kill for the sake of killing, but to recapture their holiest lands and halt the growing power of rival religions. They didn't consider it murder, they considered it God's will, thus not being in violation of the commandment. The order was officially sanctioned by by the Catholic Church.

After a decade of adulthood as a know-it-all, university-brainwashed atheist, then - regretfully and repentantly - a pop culture-brainwased new ager, I came to the following logic: (1) Satan (in all his names and forms) is real, as are his army of demons. (A) I've seen 2 with my own eyes and (B) a person would have to be blind and deaf to not see that not ONLY is he real, he is now OPENLY worshipped by the famous on BOTH sides of politics (e.g. Sam Smith's Grammys performance and Elon Musk's "soldier of the army of darkness" or whatever the model name of his BAPHOMET and inverted cross adorned costume. (2) If Satan is real, a created being, then it stands to reason he has a creator against whom to rebel, and that at least some of the bible must be true. I started seeking Christ. I had explored ALLLLL of the rest. He found me, and sent the Holy Spirit to give me sight. I see when demons entered my life through childhood trauma, where the nudged the probability cloud of possible outcomes to ones that would get me to run from God all of my life. The suffering, the depth of pain, and what I allowed that pain to do to my worldview, to my character...sin harms the sinner and crushes dreams and the beautiful, lovingly perfect gifts from God on THIS plane, I'm THIS life, too. Keep seeking. Christ is seeking you. Please forgive any poor choice of word I used here. I am a very broken man struggling, especially with my faith, but your comment saved me on a dark day, God worked thru u to touch my heart and revive my soul tonight, and I feel compelled to share the good news of my testimony, in kind. A few months ago, when I was feeling empty and exhausted, I went to a chapel near my house. Sitting in the quiet darkness, I suddenly felt a strong presence of God. As I listen to this, im transported back to the year 1250. Myself and my fellow Templars have just emerged victorious in battle against a Muslim envoy attempting to spread the Caliphate. As I enter the Holy Church of Pope Innocent IV, Im immediately entranced by the Gregorian Chants. As I stand near the entrace, a priest acknowledges my presence. He asks me politely in Latin to relinquish my weapons, shield, and to remove my helmet. I nod my head and acquiesce to his request. The Priest takes possession of my effects and I slowly make my way down the long walkway toward the front of the Church. The Pews on both sides are long and sparsly populated as the hour is late. However, this Church is never completely empty, the faithful are always present here at every hour. As I make my way toward the front of the Church I look up at the ceiling, I stand in awe at the Gold and Silver adorned chandeliers and the beautifully painted Frescos along the walls. The windows are stained glass, holding images of our Holy Father and his Son, Jesus Christ. I reach the front of the church, I slowly drop to my knees and begin to pray the Lords Prayer while allowing these chants to overtake my soul. The same priest who met me at the door, blesses me "in nomine Patris et fillii et Spiritus Sancti. Amen" Deus Vult!

This reminds me of the full-body cleansing I got in a chapel once. Everyone was gone, I had access to it because it was my college campus. I heard the ringing in my ears but it was stronger than ever before in there. I let it consume me. He guided me through all my faults lovingly, non-judgingly, so I could see from His perspective, in ways I never imagined before. These days I can't even go to church anymore, I can't BE Catholic, let alone experience anything like that. I had no idea how good I had it.
