Great advice here. And Stockroom Supply (unsolicited observation:) has the best price I've found for the conversion pad. From a purist standpoint, I'd remove a bit more of the center area old pad: the dynamics of the ROS removes a lot of material around the perimeter of the active sanding, but not so much in the center. Over time this could lead to a "hump" in the center of the old surface. Pass the ROS across the center of the old surface in a pattern that equalizes the grind on the whole surface.

I bought a regular wide Velcro strip, glued with contact glue (here in Brazil that's how they call, not sure of the name in English), and drilled the dust holes. Worked fine even though the sander velcros are of a different model. Good old regular gambiarra that just did the job.

Thank you for your video. My personal thought is that I will use up all my stock of sand paper and then I will try the stick on paper and see the difference. I must admit that I may have to buy another sander because, as I am typing I am thinking, that when I will remove the old sandpaper that is on the machine, it may not restick. Because it is obvious that the sandpaper may pick up dust while the paper is being manipulated... This may actually be the reason why the stick on paper is not as popular...I am eagerly waiting for comments from people with experience with stick on paper.

@StockroomSupply7 жыл бұрын
Hey Graham, You'd be amazed how often I hear that so don't feel bad. :) I had a customer not long ago that had a very sensitive button on his sander. He had thought he turned it off properly before he turned in for the night but he was wrong. When he went out to his shop the next morning his sander was running and had sanded a 1/2" deep hole in his maple work bench. Needless to say he needed to replace his Velcro! In the video I was using a 100g disk though the grit isn't crucial. Most times I will use a used disc I have laying around the shop. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!

Great tip! Just an observation, but given that the center of the pad is not moving near as much as the outside, should you use something else to sand the centre?
@StockroomSupply6 жыл бұрын
That is definitely an option! On my particular sander the centre of the pad was actually slightly lower than the rest of the pad. That is part of the reason it didn't sand quite a smoothly as the outside.

You might be using too much down pressure on the sander. Relax your grip and let the sander glide across the surface with minimal force and you should find it lasts longer. With the orbital sander you are only meant to work in a small area at a time to get the job done 😊

After you use the heat gun, use eucalyptus oil to clean the glue, apply and wait a minute and the glue will simply come off by rubbing with a cloth, don't use sand paper like this guy just did in this video! Then clean the eucalyptus oil with alcohol.

hmm hard to say! More likely it was faulty from the manufacturer. As you use the sander the pad will heat up...normally they fail from excessive heat and not low temperatures.

I purchased a used one as the piece is a bit pricey, but the machine kzbin.infoUgkxG6fbm3cHBd7CNTjk5D-dwYe9c9tCB9ZN has surpassed my expectations. We sand small parts by hand often, sized around 1"x1/2," and specifically look for a piece that's designed to be vertical. The motor has plenty of torque and great speed settings. The only inconvenience I had is that the disk measures 5" where we trim 6" stick-and-sand disks down easily by mounting it then cutting with a box cutter.

Wanted to make a comment here and not trying to be negative. I watched what needs to be done following your directions and I read a comment or two here about after a bit of use the thing fell off. More importantly I am trying to figure out why someone would go through these steps when they can buy the replacement part of about the same price as the piece of velcro you have in your description? As a matter of fact, while watching the video I jumped to the comments and right above the comments were links to the replacement pads. On one ad it showed two 100% replacement pads for $15.99. It costs $7 for the replacement sheet you shared with the video. I was about toe buy a replacement pad from Amazon for $8. Since I have to wait to buy the velcro piece or the replacement pad, I am not seeing the value in doing that extra work in the first place. I made this comment but of another person mentioning how the disc/velcro piece fell off.

I'm really annoyed that even the repacement velcro doesn't last long - -what also drives me nuts is my first Makita sander had chunky velcro hooks which NEVER wore out. The latest velcro pads are 'microscopic' hooks which soon fail and another pad has to be bought. GRRRRR!

I have a new B&D sander and have damaged the Velcro, so a replacement is in order . I purchased a 2 pack Velcro from your typical Home supply store. It came with a 2 part epoxy. in the video you have a ready coated replacement pad. These types usually are inferior adhesives. A 2 part epoxy will withstand up to 500 deg F You make your choice cheap or learn why what you bought dose not work that well.
