I think I remember having the string be about the length of my palm. You could try replacing the string to be longer. I was constantly changing the size of the string to get it right. Or letting other people use it.

Go on google and search african sellers of kush kash. The authentic one are like small coconut, dont buy them with red, Green,, white etc... with this Kind of color they dont produce good sound !!!
