Ethel Merman is interviewed in her Denver home by Edward R. Murrow in this 1955 edition of "Person to Person". Joining her are her two children and husband Bob Six. The program was broadcast via live remote and no tape or film was used.

That Ford show resonates in memory. Nice I can re-live the moment by watching it again on KZbin.

It's too bad this marriage didn't work out. Bob Six was a dynamo and he pursued Ethel. However, he was really busy building his airline. He took up with Audrey Meadows. That must have been his type of woman. There were many similarities between Ethel and Audrey. They were both red-haired, plain-spoken, and their speaking voices sounded similar. Audrey Meadows remained married to Bob Six for the rest of his life. She became a very wealthy widow.

She comes across as warm and unassuming. Super-talented, with a powerhouse voice. She seems like a genuinely nice and good person too, and it must have been heartbreaking to have lost her daughter (from an apparently accidental drug overdose) in 1967.

I've never seen this, though I have read about it. It seems according to some biographers that Six was not a nice husband to Ethel. By the time she was in Gypsy, they were going their separate ways. Now, if you can find any video with her and Ernest Borgnine that would be a hoot.

These Murrow show (which he hated doing) are full of baloney. They are TV history, though....and valid.

Ethel was just something he could latch onto to advertise his business. He did not love her the way she should happen. She got tired of it, and by 59 they were splitting. I believe, Ethel was already doing gypsy while they were splitting.

Such Significant Names, My Grandmother whom raised me her name was Ethel, she did have a daughter (My Mother) whom passed away but in 1995. I was born in 1968. These people have no relationships to me. FALSE IDENTITY’S. BURKE LAW WAS MENTIONED, THE ONLY BURKE I KNOW IS PORTIOUS BURKE, MY GRANDFATHER WAS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PERRI BURKE CONCRETE. SO SAD & CORRUPT
