you're comment is actually pretty accurate! walt disney did visit coney island prior to the creation of disneyland and was inspired by some of the rides (the teacups are the obvious carry-over and are actually in the new luna park). thanks for watching!

@darthstarkiller1912 yes! the story is a restauranteer named charles feltman (who's restaurant stood where the new luna park/old astroland is) created them at coney island in the late 1800's (i'm a little unsure of the year). a former employee of his named nathan handwerker made then a bit more famous when he opened his eponymous hot dog stand, "nathan's" at coney island. thanks much for watching!

Stuntpilot22 well to bring the water ride car up it was a chain lift and a tall wooden structure then when the car reached the pool they would have to paddle to the side to get off

I watched a documentary many years ago and this incident was mentioned in it. This story always stuck with me, but it was a long time ago when I heard it so I may be wrong about some details; but basically what happened is the park at the time had animals as part of its attractions. One day, a handler was messing around with the elephant named Topsy. He put a cigar up her trunk. Topsy reared back in reaction and trampled the man. I don’t think he was killed, but needless to say, the heads of the theme park wanted to get rid of her after this. The thing is, having an elephant imported to the US is expensive, so they decided that if they were to kill her, they’d have to try and make some money from it, rather than just accept their losses. So they advertised her electrocution as a special event. It was filmed, and according to news outlets at the time, “the most humane killing of an animal”. I believe she was hung, electrocuted and shot at the same time to make her death as quick as possible. It’s really awful, particularly because Topsy was just defending herself from the handler who was being reckless, but she took the blame for it. It shocks me too that they made a day out of killing an elephant for onlookers to “enjoy”, but I guess that’s what the world was like back then :/
