I hope you could compare them to the CX.. That one has no lower treble peak, on measurements at least.

Could get he Drop CX version, I actually prefer those to the C flows that Dan makes himself. My understanding is that it is closest to the first revisions. I also think it has more natural timbre.

It would be great if you could do a video explaining all the jargon you use when describing the audio. I understand most of it but there is still some stuff I don't and I'm sure there are others that don't know what you're talking about at all.

Id be interested to see what you think about the Closed Aeon, it always struck me as a more tonally pleasant and "musical" sounding headphone than any of the Ether C revisions, while not sacrificing any of the detail or resolve.

Are the vent tuning "stickers" applied to the bass port? I couldn't tell from the video. With those applied it makes the bass much more neutral sounding. Also those look like fairly old pads. Mr. Speakers changed to a firmer foam in their pads and it really enhances the bass response (esp. sub-bass).

Definitely your best review to date in my opinion, and I don't know why but that thumbnail is so epic. Have you heard the AEon closed? I know Tyll held them favourably when in comparison to the Ether C.

I remember trying the Ether C and the Aeon closed at Canjam and kept going back to the Aeon closed for some reason. I know the environment is not ideal, but the way the Aeon's sounded was soooooo good.

Great review and informative as always. Question, the Focal Elex you seemed higher on in your review. Especially in the soundstage and precision. However, in another vid you put these in your S ranking category while the Elex was in the A category (even though the Elex is half the price). You mentioned that the Elex was your everyday headphone now. Is that still the case. Which one do you prefer? Trying to decide between the Elex and the CX (similar to the 1.1)

Hey man! Great review - I'm hoping to hear these (or rather the latest revision) at CanJam London. Have you heard the Oppo PM-3? I know they're not nearly the same price range or use case (being a comparatively light portable) - but they're another successful closed planar, if a touch dark.

So. You're one of those rare lucky F's who get forward out-of-head placement of central sounds from headphones without even using crossfeed. Paastah might've been onto something when she suggested you're the perfect male specimen. :P
@SoundWaveTrax5 жыл бұрын
I would imagine that would differ from headphone to headphone. Nothing to do with anatomy.
@d0nj035 жыл бұрын
It would differ from headphone to headphone and from anatomy to anatomy. For some people and with the right headphones it just fits together in that special way and sounds like a source in front of you is emitting at you. For most of us with most headphones nothing ever sounds forward, good soundstage on headphones only ever sounds like some things are far left, far right or behind the head. Never forward. (I suspect this is also why that barber shop binaural demo is the most popular binaural recording: it works even for us who never hear anything as being forward and outside the head - conveniently, a barber never goes in front of you, so that recording completely avoids that problem and manages to sound realistic to almost everyone.)
@SoundWaveTrax5 жыл бұрын
@@d0nj03 Binaural recordings are a whole different beast. Those rely heavily on specific fine cues that your brain picks up. I don't know that it is anatomy specific. I find that neutral headphones like the Sennheiser stuff image voices and instruments in general as a bigger...entity in that stereo space and that makes it feel less like it's coming from a specific spot. I think I got headphones like the AKG K712 to image slightly in front of my forehead on certain vocals or instruments but only because those are kinda thin on the mids and focus a bit too much energy in certain spots. I haven't heard any high end headphones like the HD800 which are supposed to sound "holographic" but imagine these claims are somewhat overblown. I would guess they don't image further than your forehead but can sound pretty far out generally, at the sides.
@d0nj035 жыл бұрын
Well, apart from the Smyth Realiser and other heavily customized solutions, the only other thing I know that might get you that honest-to-god realistic forward placement of sound via headphones are the listening room simulations in the Out of Your Head software. At least for me 2-3 of the samples in their "Multi-Speaker System Comparison with 2 CH jazz music" demo file on the website made some of the instruments appear to be at arm's length or farther, so clearly out of my head.

Why are you even looking at $1600 headphones when you don't understand terminology for sound characteristics?
@jasonlax41125 жыл бұрын
@@hildegarden6 lol. You speak as though you were born with all the knowledge current in your brain at this moment in time. The price of a product has no relation to how and in what fashion it's described. I own plenty of audio equipment below and above the $1600 price point.
@hildegarden65 жыл бұрын
@@jasonlax4112 How headphones are described is definitely related to price. Nobody is going to go into the technicalities for a pair of CAL! or SHP9500 like they would for $1600 headphones. Either you're wealthy enough to buy whatever the fuck you want, or you go from upgrade to upgrade, trying out new headphones and learning the lingo along the way, like most people venturing into the summit market. You claim to own plenty of audio equipment below and above the $1600 price point, yet you don't know shit. Lol.
