Ethiopia is a wilderness of extremes, where life has had to adapt in order to survive. This ancient land has cradled life since the dawn of time, and beyond the scorched deserts lie fortified mountains that conceal wildlife found nowhere else on Earth. Including Ethiopian wolves, one of the rarest predators in the world.

How beautiful and delicate looking these wolves are. I find they resemble a cross between coyote and fox.

Yes, exactly. I guess it's a species that biologists have been wrong to categorize.

@@yseson_ "Wolf" is just a name. Domestic dog is a subspecies of grey wolf, which is "the" wolf. Coyote or prairie wolf is their closest relative, with the golden wolf and African wolf (recently split into two species, previously known as the golden jackal) close to them. The Ethiopian wolf is further away, still, then there are the dhole (Asiatic wild dog), African wild dogs/painted dogs/painted wolves (no one can decide what their name is), and maned wolves (South American canine that looks like a fox on stilts). Dog or wolf, it's just a name, and "THE wolf" is the same species as "THE dog". :)

Bale Mountains, the world's biggest Afro Alpine resort found in the Ethiopian southern highlands. Visitors prepare for temperature extremes hot in the day, very very cold at night and watch the elevation too. But you get splendid walking trails( nowhere on planet earth) in return.

Ethiopian people will possibly be the cause of this animal's extinction. I hope the people of Ethiopia can prevent this animal from going extinct. I hope they can save this creature, instead of being like a virus that kills it.

Well, Ethiopian highlands are close to 3000 meters above sea level. The temperature is really cold and in many ways similar to what is found in temperate areas. I'm not surprised there is a wolf there

These guys prefer small prey. They as quick and thinly snooted for doing so. So adding bigger game would only increase larger predators or outcompete smaller prey
