Etho MindCrack SMP - Episode 36: New Section

MindCrack is a server Guude started in late 2010. It is a private (whitelisted) server. We are currently not accepting applications.
Today I show off all the work I've done on my mushroom tracks and also a new section I built at the duel blaze farm.

Etho, you truly inspire many (me included) to create their own minecraft lp. Your creativity and knowledge of redstone is very unique and I am glad to be a fan. The reason I like MindCrack is because everyone is unique. I also have an idea for the mine. I'm not sure if you already have plans for it, but it would be cool to see how darkwood would look to seperate the shafts (kinda like your singleplayer world but nchanging the oakwood to darkwood).

Etho, you have my respect for several things, including your sniper skills with a bow, and your beautiful projects in the nether. I have a dual blaze grinder on the SMP server I play on, but it does not have the open feel and the awesome view that yours does. Quite amazing! Can't wait for the next installment!

Etho, on your Mushroom Track, you can prevent Zombie Pigmen from spawning on it by putting upside-down half slabs directly above the track. If you do this, you'll still be able to exit your minecart while riding!

VintageBeef answered this best. You form a mental picture of how someone will look based on their voice, especially if you have listened to it for many episodes. In a way you create a bond, a connection based on the voice. Etho shares part of himself, his life etc. But often reality doesn't live up to that image and you experience a measure of disappointment too. That's 1 way to see why Etho doesn't want to show himself. Another might be to protect his real life privacy.

you should run water down the glass ceiling of your rail tunnel, to match the aesthetics of the blaze farm area and provide a neat transition between running under lava and running under water. A trough to stop it obsidianing the lava could be made fairly seamless.

It's a server set up by Guude, another LP-er. He set it up with the idea that LPers can have a good server to play on with other LPers, to basically enjoy themselves, become friends and make epic videos. So in a sense, it would be if Audi, BMW, and Merc bought a test track, and test there cars together. At least thats what I understood from watching one of Guudes videos, though he'd probably explain it better.

I was watching, I heard etho say that lava will be in the way. My first thought, use a detector rail to make a dispenser shoot a fire resistance potion at you as you pass.

Etho you should add a source water block at the top of the blaze farm mine cart track so you can have a water fall going over the glass ceiling which would help keep your theme of water in the nether going. Plus it would look cool

Branch mining is when you have one "trunk" of the tree and different "branches" going off of it. Strip mining is just digging one long tunnel.

It could be legitimately acquired before 1.9 via the Silk Touch enchantment. This feature will return in 1.3. However breaking it in the nether will no longer be able to yield water. Hope this helps :)

You should have that lava fall go right on top of glass-covered rail line, falling away to both sides! That's called style

If you dont want the zombie pigmen spawning on your track you could always just replace the blocks under the track with upside down stairs or halfslbs because in 1.3 you can place rails on upside stairs and half slabs but mobs cant spawn on them. Like so Etho can see.

I'm very surprised you didn't make the path go into the ceiling. Your whole base is supposed to be hanging anyways, and the nether hub is at the top of the world. Not to mention you also get a nice aerial view if you come in from the ceiling.

Etho, you should make a netherwart farm next to the railway down into the lava lake with water running down to harvest. where you start going up on the railway, you should make a little station with that design doc uses for choosing railways to stop at the netherwart collecting-station, or keep on going to the blaze farm. The netherwart would be next to the iron bars, so you could see it get harvested. it would block the view, however.

Etho, you should put glass on the top of the railway down, but then use your water from above to have water cascade over the top of it to protect the glass from ghast balls.

one of your precious circle stone bricks would look mighty fine for where the button for where the rail track is supposed to go. and you could use them for your blocks of choice at the nether hub!

Etho, you should build the railway through and under the lava. But make sure you have some fire resistance splash potions in a dispenser which is hooked up to a timer to prevent fire/lava damage in front of the "lava track". And place an ice block after crossing the lava surrounded by signs or anything else somewhere above the rail and smelt it. The people will move through it and get rid of the burning animation, because its annoying.

Etho I've got a great plan. If u wire someones base with tnt and make a bunch of redstone torchs so like if they break a redstone torch then they explode and die. And to make it even more happy put obsidian around so their home doesn't explode and get damaged. So its your call and this is just an idea

Take away the stairs that cover up the seed mushrooms. You don't see many mushrooms on the train journey, and the seed mushrooms (because they will never get destroyed) will allow you to see more mushrooms and make it look better :)

Use upsidedown half slabs in the nether over tracks. Pigmen can't spawn on your track and you can get in and out of the cart if needed.

I have an idea. In the part where the tracks go through the lava try and replace the iron bars at the sides with either stone brick or glass in order to get the feeling that you are going through some "fluid". The problem right now is that it doesnt look very realistic because you get the idea that lava can run through the openings of the iron bars. I really hope you get what i mean :D

Etho I have a disign idea for you: that lava you blocked of you could have used it as roof lighting, also you could have made a glass/stone/cobble artistic funnel for the lava to go into before leading down the roof.

Yes, it would be fine. Cobblestone generators have been in the game since alpha, they're a proper game mechanic that was purposefully put into the game. Also, cobble is an abundant resource and you don't get much advantage from using one. On the other hand, sand generators are a glitch where you exploit the game to get sand. They're weren't designed to be in the game and are much more 'cheaty.'

Speed challenge #8: Break open all of your strip mines and take down the torches, wait 5 minutes for mobs to spawn, and then run down each mine and see how many of them you can get through.

Etho, dont forget that normally, the mycelium has the particle effect of spores coming out of it. you have your particles set to off, but for other people that have them on, it looks pretty disgusting. at least i think.
