Nice, finally an extra layer to combat instead of spamclick. Now a little more weapons would nice, maybe dagger for speed but low damage, and a spear for defensive maneuvers. Maybe they could make armors weigh a little so you could switch between light and heavy armor depending on what you need.

"Dumb" and too much like "modded Minecraft", I would really appreciate it if you were a little more specific with your arguments. "Modded Minecraft" is such a broad term that encompasses anything from slight alterations, weapons, technology to Pokemon and My Little Pony. Specializing would add depth to the PVP, give team members different roles and force them to make more strategic choices. Light and fast or heavy and strong etc. Besides it would fit the frame perfectly, since the game already is heavily influenced by classic RPG elements.

Let's see dungeoneering, classic rpg enemies, bosses (dragon included), medieval gear and tools, different level enchantments, potion brewing an actual exp and level system...Did I miss anything? Part of the "speed always win" problem has already been fixed, as you have cool downs between attacks and have to time blocks on top of it. So if say someone rush straight for the heavily armored tank he'll do little damage plus the other team gets a chance to focus fire.

If you look in f5 you can see the shield is "wrapped" around his arm meaning his shield is on his left arm and not hand this and he can still pull back the bow.

Zachary Norton hmm, guess that makes sense then? But yet it doesn't... the thing is that isn't really how shields works, at least for that tower shields like those in the game. If you do have a shield with a bow however you shouldn't have it on your free arm that gets the arrows, it should be wrapped around the same arm you holding the bow with. (yes Steve is holding the bow with his main hand, which is kind of weird since you often use your main arm for the arrows, not the bow)

Zachary Norton I never said that you were wrong about your statement, your statement about the shield is wrapped around the arm in Minecraft is correct. I just meant that tower shields are very immobile and heavy for handling arrows, I don't know if you ever have worn a shield before, but shields in general isn't strapped around a arm like that, especially not tower shields. This is only a snapshot though and it would be nice if they added more types of shields with different kind of stats / usage.

Etho! The sword has a special knockback feature. When you are either crouching or walking normally (it won't work if you're sprinting) and you hit a mob, it will knock back surrounding mobs (not sure if it counts for all entities). So if you're surrounded, then get out your sword and hit, and the crowd will get knocked back.

Etho~ Your math is wacky for the damage calculations. :P You demonstrated was the ratios of Attack Damage and Attack Speed between the Sword and Axe. Remember the Attack Speed listed is more accurately represented as _Strikes per Second_. So stating that an Axe's Attack speed is 0.9 means that it takes more than a second to swing it because it can only do 90% of a swing in one second. If you are trying to compare their combat effectiveness is Damage x Speed : Just using the base values w/o Enchants or Potion Modifiers.... Axe :: 10 Hearts/Strike * 0.9 Strikes/Second = 9 Hearts/Second Sword :: 7 Hearts/Strike * 1.45 Strikes/Second = 10.15 Hearts/Second This means the Sword is about 11% more effective Now including the values w/ Enchants or Potion Modifiers (+12.25 Damage).... Axe :: 22.25 Hearts/Strike * 0.9 Strikes/Second = 20.025 Hearts/Second Sword :: 19.25 Hearts/Strike * 1.45 Strikes/Second = 27.9125 Hearts/Second This means the Sword w/ buffs is about 28% more effective. The final reason not to use an Axe is that Attacking with it deals 2 durability damage to it, meaning that over its lifetime a Sword will always do more damage.

+XDependent You have to take into account the invincibility frames of the opponent, it doesn't have to be fully charged for it to be effective, specially in pvp where you have to do combos. you said the sword was 1.45 so that's .55 seconds. So by that time it's almost fully charged but it may be better to cut it off before it is. So that makes the sword even more effective. Any idea of how much damage does a sharpness v with strength 2 diamond axe does every, say .51 seconds? Also it'd always be more effective to start a fight with an axe and switch to a sword, or everytime you start a chain of attacks.

HaxorViper True, but the values I am referring to are also peak damage. You saw how in effective the axe was when you don't let it charge. Also your math for the sword's speed was a bit off. 1.45 Hits/Second means you have to inverse it to get the Seconds/Hit. (1.45 Hits/Seconds)^-1 = .689 Seconds/Hit.

XDependent Ah that explains it. But what was shown in the video when the axe wasn't charged wasn't a good test subject as that was a straight spam clicking. I mean clicking right after the invinsibility frames end, and I don't think Etho did that.

+HaxorViper All you need to do is find out the damage the weapon does when it's not completely charged, and with that information, the associated strikes per second. Then you'd recalculate the math that XDependent did above, and compare the weapons relatively again based on hearts per second, under the assumption that you constantly attack at the same rate. Calculating the damage for combos would be a bit more difficult, but it's still possible. You'd need to find the hearts per second a specific weapon does while pretending to cycle through your other combo weapons. Repeat this for each combo weapon and sum the hearts per second of each weapon. This will yield the hearts per second of your combo damage rotation.

Hey, I know you said you saw no purpose for a bedroom which is why you didn't have one. What if you made one filled with dispensers to give you gear retrieval gear? The idea is that you would be given some ender pearls and a weapon, armor would be put on you, and a swiftness potion would be thrown on you. This way you can get your gear back quickly before it despawns.

I just had a look at the snapshot game code, and the chorus fruit teleportation: The game makes 16 attempts to teleport the player in exactly the same way it would an Enderman. This means that first a random position within 32 blocks of the player is chosen (a 64x64x64 cube centred on the player) Then the game loops through the blocks, going downwards from the chosen position, until a valid location is encountered. This means that the chorus fruits are very impractical for an elevator going upwards no matter what you do, but they may be very good for going down.

With the ender teleporting, why not try a larger platform in the sky? Make your own failsafe, like a 3x3 or 4x4 area to teleport to, and you could block it off using pistons / water afterwards seeing as it didnt seem to like teleporting you into water. Give yourself more chance to land on the platform, 1 block perhaps isnt detected and thus failsafes to the ground (it didnt "fail" or decide to leave you where you were, which is also a 1 block point).

Hey Etho,Maybe the Chorus Fruit scans the Y-axis for a valid spot. This would explain why you only ended up in a cave when you were by the lake and why you landed on the ground from the sky.A workaround for this would be to add water/lava/blocks in every 2-block-plus-tall space in the y-column you don't want to teleport to, and leave only the open block as a valid space. So, instead of making a floating island, make a 64x64 water lake with no caves underneath and make an island in it. Then, you could use dispensers or pistons to make or take away islands. You could even launch sand/gravel like you did with the desert city to make the islands.

1.9 won't ruin PVP. It will make PVP more fun in my opinion. It WILL however make PVE nearly impossible. I tried playing on this snapshot. 3rd night I had iron armor/weapons, a group of skeletons attacked me. The stupid cooldown killed me. I don't like this update to be honest. And I'm not a PvPer, I actually dislike combat in minecraft... And this is just going to be annoying for vanilla survival players who just want to build and have fun. No longer can you quickly spam click a zombie that interrupted you from building to death, but instead have to hit, wait for the weapon to recover, hit, repeat until dead. I lost interest in minecraft a long time ago and this isn't helping. I'd rather they add more items, blocks, and mobs than a crappy new combat system made just to please the PvP crowd ( who don't like it anyway ). Seriously, I'd rather they go more into say technology and new creatures such as bears. Modded minecraft is much better in every way except perhaps accessibility. You want a more dynamic combat system? Get hexxit or something. More technology related things than red stone can supply? Get tekkit. An overall better experience with much more content? Get Feed the Beast or something. RIP Vanilla Minecraft

+Luko Wond (GenuisBoyLOW) There are faster weapons, like a hoe. Etho just likes using an axe which happens to be the slowest in recovery time, doesn't mean you have to. Use a hoe for all your spam clicks. Or a bow, those haven't really changed mechanic wise. Or if you like building more play on peaceful, build mob grinders and only turn mobs on when you need drops. Problems solved. ^-^

+BYondTime89 That's not my point. I'd much rather combat stays the way it currently is compared to the changes Mojang is making. The shield is cool, dual wielding is sweet, attack speed... Not really. They ultimately implemented it incorrectly. It'd be much more convenient and intuitive to just make weapon swings slower/fast than add a recovery speed. If they did this, I'd likely have a different opinion on the matter.

Actually Etho, if you consider that the damage is dealt in chunks based on the speed, and not actually constantly per second, you would find that in game an axe would kill a player first if you landed every shot. also the axe has a special ability where you can stun a player from using their shield which is really cool

With the chorus fruit, perhaps you could set up a route underground, where the only valid destination is empty space; Will it teleport you to a pressure plate? That could be used to close off the area you leave with a block the moment you teleport away.

The chorus fruit chooses a spot in 32 blocks at all axis, then if there isn't a solid block under the spot, it goes down until it finds ground, if there is void at the bottom, it chooses another spot and repeats the process til it does find ground, if there isn't anything to teleport to, it will not teleport you

In my opinion, I don't like this update. I think the End idea is good and I like the fact that they made the Ender Dragon fight harder. But the shields will just attract people to mini-games instead of the real minecraft (building, surviving etc) that everyone used to love. I guess I'm just one of those players that only likes the past and needs to get used to the future.

Hello Etho, you can easily find out the dps of an item by using Damage / Attack Speed (divide). What it mean is, if say you use sword or axes the entire fight, how much your tools is doing damage every second (instead of using the method that you were using, which is very inaccurate and vague) so yeah this way you can compare any items, no matter the tier or how many of them you want to compare. So Etho 2 things 1 In creative mode you can put any enchantment on any item so I have a diamond hoe with every enchantment in the game via chats and it is the best weapon I've used. A fish is also good lol. 2 On the hypixel sever there's a game called bed wars (You should play it its really fun.) and in it the axe does more dps because it's the same damage as in normal minecraft like the axe is 9 and the sword is 7 but there is n recharge so it makes the axe much better then the sword. Just wanted to say.

Etho, about destroying these end tower; you can climb up to one tower, open up the cage, then using ender pearls teleport to another tower near you and destroy the frirst tower with your arrows, and repeat this process with all towers.

Etho you need to turn on the graphical thing of Attack Speed. It is in the Video Settings. There is a bar then wich tells you when to attack again.

Etho, now the usefulness of weapons are put as dps (damage per second.) The sword has the mos t of it so it's still the best weapon. Also if you stay still or move slowly with it and attack, it does a slash attack that knocks back all enemies in front of you.

To keep the axe and sword balanced, they should subtract from the attack speed when someone gets slowness potion instead of divide it by a constant. That way, the axe is more effected by the slowness potion than the sword just like the sword is more effected by the weakness potion than the axe.

If the chorus fruit puts you on the ground if there is no good block to teleport to, you may use this for a very fast lift solution.

if the attack speed is how many attacks per second then you can figure out how much damage it does by just multiplying the damage by the attack speed. Diamond axe = 10 * 0.9 = 9 Diamond sword = 7 * 1.45 = 10.15 Diamond sword has a higher dps. Wooden axe: 7 * 0.9 = 6.3 Wooden sword = 4 * 1.45 = 5.8

Okay, so I don't know if this has been mentioned before but, don't you think it would be cool if the fruit from the ender could be put into a splash potion/lingering potion and who ever walks into it the teleport randomly. Could be really interesting in a battle situation if you have really low health, allows a quick escape. Also, shouldn't splash potions of weakness increase hostile mob damage?

The dragon stayed above the portal because when you hit her, she got stunned and only was able to use the dragon breath. That's why she was aiming the wrong way. If anything thy should give the axe a less-op ability.

problem with the chorus road is that it can choose the place you are already standing as a destination, an then it fails, also, you couldn't build it in the sky, because it can always teleport you down to the ground, you could do it underground, but then it would be random, as there would be a 1/3 chance of going forward a 1/3 chance of going backward and a 1/3 chance of not going anywhere at all, plus, unless you add markers you would not no where you were, and even if you knew, you couldn't choose to go the other way, so it would be pointless

weakness and strength used to go by percentages, like critical hits. strength 1 was 140% strength 2 was 280%. With strength 2 it was possible to do 49.25 damage in a single hit with sharpness 5 diamond sword, strength 2, critical hit. the strength and weakness were more nerfed than buffed because when you have potions, your more than likely to have diamond and iron stuff which is effected more with percentages than defined damage.

Try the transport system in the end, where there is no ground to teleport to. Also, try making the platforms a little bigger?
