Minecraft Server. Did Bdubs sneak the end rod back? Today we check out the "What is Love?" note block song we installed at Keralis' base. Then it's time to head to the Nether to start up our Nether farming at a new base location. First off, we setup a couple simple Blaze farms.
Note Block Music:
Modest Mouse - Float On
RuneScape - Sea Shanty 2
Haddaway - What is Love?
Super Metroid - Lower Norfair
Cave Story - Jenka 1

Honestly that is a genius way of working with loops in songs for compressing down the size of a noteblock song. will you consider making a tutorial of how you go about doing this? this is a pretty unique thing.
@Spaghetti775
@Spaghetti775 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's that complicated - you first pick a "unit" of time in your song to be the loop length (What is Love uses 4 bars here), and rig a timer to pulse at the correct tempo. Then for each different track, you fill up a chest with a sequence of items, and drop one each loop - comparing the signal strength can then let you do whatever. The one part I'm not sure about is that he mentions all the items are collected back together at the end of the song - I assume that doesn't mean every item from every chest, as that would break the sequence. The triggering loop and the actual length of the noteblock tracks are decoupled, so you can have an individual track lasting longer than 4 bars. In certain situations you can also optimise by having multiple tracks use the same trigger sequence, but with different levels of redstone power - this can only happen with a hierarchy though, so you know one of the tracks will always trigger when the others do.

I think etho has several reasons to use lava here. Lavaflow doesn't break when leaving (unloading) the area unexpected (for example game crash) therefore you'll only have to set that up once, and while doing maintenance work you'll not be swarmed by blazes again. The probability of mojang changing that back to not working again is really low too. And most important people have seen that way less often.

@querela92
@querela92 4 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that, too. But I was not yet thinking of programmable 'loops'. Totally genius. Obvious in hindsight. Maybe the idea comes from how the MIDI format works or those 8bit music creation tools... Or just how music and notes work ... I really like the idea. Well, the song, too. :-)
@batt3ryac1d

His design for doing loops is awesome. Cause otherwise you'd have to do a huge inefficient chunk of noteblocks.
@querela92
@querela92 4 жыл бұрын
@@batt3ryac1d obviously. But there exist a ton of noteblock videos where the player will need to fly over endless amounts of noteblocks... The main issue with using loops would have been synchronization but Etho solved this with his tapes. I myself was first thinking of a more cumbersome method of a central redstone line that can repeatedly call various reuseable parts with suitable delays... (like refrain, etc.)

02:53 I left a comment on Keralis’ episode that it was beautiful to see Keralis’ realization (while my own happened at the same time) that it was the entire song, not just a few bars. I felt the nostalgia come across so strongly from Keralis even though I didn’t start watching HC until later and it was really sweet to see how affected he was. Thanks for showing us how you did it in detail and all the hard work you put into it! This kind of over the top grind is why I love Hermitcraft so much and this unique type of grind keeps HC fresh. I've been watching your videos for over 5 years now, and have always been super impressed with their quality. That said, I feel like the last few months (maybe weeks? hard to keep track of time during covid) you've been absolutely skyrocketing in terms of quality. The noteblock music, cutaway gags, small scripted bits, and so much more nuance that's so hard to put to words. The production value is really taking off, and in a way that goes very well with the style you've already cultivated and we've come to expect over the years. I'm sure you've gotten a lot of feedback on this already, but I'd like to add my voice in support. You've been doing this longer than most people will, and rather than burn out you're still exceeding the expectations of your long-time viewers. Really appreciate the effort you put into all of your videos, it absolutely shows. So anyway, that's my response to the BDubs "Ow, there's a donkey" cutaway. Edit: I'm not sure what's more impressive. How fully recreated What Is Love is, or the engineering behind how it plays.

There's a new spawning mechanic that lets you turn on/off nether-mob spawning at will using nametagged mobs. The way it works is that there's a zone (if I recall it looked to be about as big as the water-spreading circle) around each mob that prevents other mobs of that type from spawning, and when mobs of the same type get too close their individual no-spawn zones merge into a bigger one that includes all individuals--as opposed to having x number of blocks overlapping each other. You can pop some mobs into minecarts that bring the mobs in close (to cover your mob farm in the exclusion zone) to turn it off and when you want to turn them on send those minecarts out far enough that the exclusion zone no longer covers the farm.

I'm on a private server with a few of my friends, and it's the first time I've played minecraft in a long while. Even though I haven't been playing minecraft, I've still been watching Etho for years. I just recently finished building a blaze farm based on his old tutorial from 8 years ago, and it still worked great. I was also in the process of pranking one of my friends by putting a noteblock song underneath her base to play Roundabout/To Be Continued randomly. Then this video comes out and Etho is doing exactly the same thing, but of course being revolutionary and on a whole new level like he does. I might need to redo my note blocks now that I know this new looping technique. Great video, Etho. Can't wait for the next ones.

Etho my man, that noteblock redstone is wild. Whenever I watch most redstone, I recognise the line of thought and approach, but with this... It's such an ingenious and honestly, refreshing approach. Would love to hear you make music outside of Minecraft too because it's pretty obvious you're solid at music theory

remember, you can keep blazes from spawning in your crossroads by covering the area in wither roses, so only wither skeletons can spawn. that would be a good way to not have to account for them.
