Vince Oliver Dagdagan leggings are protests against something the school has done, they stand outside where the teachers are and boo and cheer. They then hand over a letter of complaint as soon as they do someone screams “LEGGIT” then they all run.

It's the class war thing they have in Britain. State school kids hates Public school kids... I'm one of those with the distinction of being both foreign and "posh" donno if they'd hate me more or less... I didn't go to Eton though, a different Public school.

Are you an Etonian yourself, by any chance? Some inside experience is required to appreciate it, but in general terms there's a concept known as a "leggit" at Eton; this is basically a traditional form of social protest and self-expression by the students. During morning break, all the teachers gather in the School Hall to discuss various matters, and the students can grab a bite in between lessons. If the school makes an unpopular decision, they can also choose to organise a sort of demonstration in front of School Hall, chanting random songs, booing the unpopular teachers as they come out and cheering for the popular ones. The Headmaster of the school arrives at School Hall somewhat later than the rest of the teachers, and as soon as this happens, someone calls out "Leggit!" and everyone scrams. As far as I can tell, the instigators and/or prefects of the school stay behind and offer some sort of explanation or receive a lecturing. The school doesn't really take action against this apart from that, partly out of respect for tradition, but Leggits mustn't happen too often either. I once heard it used to be about 5 years on average in between each one, but I experienced 2 in 2 years, so I'm guessing people don't care much for the traditional meaning of a leggit anymore, and are conflating it with more recent ideas, such as flashmobs, with no reason or motive behind them. Obviously the School doesn't take kindly to this. Not sure what the situation is now with regards to leggits.

But the scars are there for life. A deep unresolved hatred of their mothers that is buried deep in their unconscious minds. Never mind. The can be high achievers to try and compensate their loss.

I've always wondered why they never carry a bag, they always carry their books with them.

Some did carry a bag, although it was only a handful. If I recall, it was generally derided by other boys as somewhat effete. Does seem bizarre now that I look back on it. Sometimes a bag was a necessity when an abnormally large volume of books was involved, but overall they were reserved for laptops and other electronic equipment. I suppose there was not usually much practical call for a bag in the first place. Usually one would have 2 lessons ("divs") in a row followed by an extended break of some sort (whether for lunch or sports), and each div would require a copy book and a textbook, maybe a folder or print-out for one of those, so normally one wouldn't be faced with a particularly heavy load (though there were a fair number of exceptions: in particular, I recall looking forward to divs which required fewer and lighter books to haul around.) Most locations were within 5-minute walking distance from one another on thoroughly memorised routes. On the other hand, one would often be short on time during an extended break when changing over in between sequences of divs, and in a rush, taking one set of books out of a bag and packing another might well seem like an annoyance rather than a convenience given the often trivial distances involved. Also there was a custom among boys known as "booking", which is a prank one would play by knocking down someone's books out of their hands.

@@4grammaton could you tell me a what a typical dt at eton would be like. What’s the typical time table what are the lessons I’m order on a Monday for example.

@@mini-7674 You wake up around 7:30 to 8:00, get dressed, go to the dining hall or cafeteria (depending on which House you're in), have breakfast, then go to chapel service at around 8:30, which lasts about 20 minutes. Then you have your first div (lessons are called "divs" - "divisions") of the day which starts at 9:00. Divs last 40 minutes and there's a 10-minute interval in between them to reach the location of the next div (since different subjects are taught at different buildings). At around 11am there's a period called "Chambers" which is when everyone has 20 minutes to return to their Houses and dorms, take a quick rest, have some biscuits in the kitchen, change books for the next batch of divs. Then there are a couple more divs, and then there's lunch at around 1-2pm. After lunch you usually have games (sports), which is normally either rugby or rowing or some other team sport. You practice/play that sport for 1-2 hours. Then at around 4pm you have the last couple of divs of the day, which end around 6pm. You can then go back to your house and chill for about an hour until supper, which is around 7pm. After supper there's an event called "prayers" which is when the housemaster and the students of each house gather for announcements and admin discussions. After supper/prayers there is a range of clubs (extracurrical activities) and societies (basically events where experts or VIPs or celebrities of some kind are invited to give talks or lectures) you may choose to attend, and that can last until late in the evening, until 10 or 11pm. I don't remember the exact times for things because this was over 10 years ago now, which is why I'm approximating so much. Also these timetables can vary by quite a bit. On some days you don't have games (sports), on some days you don't have divs after 4pm. On some days you have longer prayers where there's a proper meeting, and on some days there's merely a roll call where the housemaster makes sure everyone's accounted for (I think that might have been called something else other than "prayers" too). In more senior years you become a "specialist" and you only study a few subjects, so the number of divs you have per day is reduced, which obviously changes the timetable too. Saturdays and Sundays are a separate topic.

Ja, klar. Ich hatte da wenig Zeit; alles ist doch sehr schnell passiert. Ich wollte alles am schnellsten aufnehmen und habe dabei diesen Gewackel-Fehler gemacht. Ich finde es komisch, dass sie "das nächste Mal" gesagt haben, weil ich schon lange in einem anderen Land wohne, und werde so etwas nie wieder sehen.

SyNcOps yeah I go to a grammar school to call them all torys just because the go to a private school isn’t fair I went to a boarding school for some time half the people there were from Spain or Italy nothing to do with torys and yes some people do show off but not all of them do
