I've been thru the tunnel several times, canoe and kayak, and that drop in the middle has got me more than once. They dug it from both ends and didn't quite meet perfectly in the middle, so it drops and dog-legs to the left. A good strong waterproof flashlight is a must. Always make sure you can see daylight at the end before committing, sometimes during floods blow-downs can pile up in there and make a dangerous strainer.

Good point about checking for strainer's first. We looked through it to make sure the way was clear, but I wasn't expecting that drop! It makes sense though that they didn't get the tunnel perfectly straight.

Wow...crazy tunnel. How do you like the vibe 120? Is it pretty stable?
@southernoutdoorsmd62292 жыл бұрын
Yes, the yellowfin 120 is a great kayak and is as stable as kayaks come. It's actually my older son's kayak, but I borrow it from time to time. :)

Would have been nice to go through with a high-powered spotlight so the rest of us could see what the inside of the tunnel look like.

That actually was tried by one of the guys on the trip. He ended up losing the spotlight in the tunnel, LOL!

Man That was a nice group that you went with Look like you all had a blast except for flipping. I'm sorry that happened to you. I had that happen to me a couple of times. I know the feeling man. Every single thing I put on my kayak is tied down to the kayak so when I flip I don't lose anything. I have the rod floats on my rod too. Can we say the rod floats work well! My friends even laugh at me because I tired my flip-flops down to my kayak. I have to kayak barefooted 👣 because I have big very very wide feet sz15 6 EEEEEE wide with very very fat wide toe that are equally straight across making my foot very extremely wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my little toe. They do not make a shoe , sock , or boot that is wide enough for my foot so flip flops is the only thing that will barely and I mean barely fit my foot because my toes are wider than the flip-flop straps. Both of my lil toes even hang off the footbed of my flip flops because of my foot being that wide. So this is why I kayak Barefooted 👣 cuz I do not want to break or lose the only Footwear that will fit my foot. It really really sucks having a foot this very very extremely wide that is 6 1/2 inches wide with very very fat wide toe straight across. Good video sir thank you for sharing.

Thanks! Yeah you go in the drink eventually, but especially on moving water. Rod floats and leashing everything else will save you some dough!

Awesome video, love seeing travels like this. Which kayak handled the shoals the best? Was one better than the other?
@southernoutdoorsmd62294 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I don't really think any of them handled it better than one or the other. It just depended on if you hit the shoals in the right place and were able to steer when needed. Those rocks and obstacles come up quick and if you make the wrong decision you are going in the drink! If I had to pick one it was probably the Vibe Maverick. It has such a shallow draft it is not affected as much by underwater obstructions.
